1300 GS Suspension and Adaptive Ride Height Errors

Hi, I’ve just experienced the same 3 messages today at the start of a 15 day holiday starting in the Loire. It seemed to reset after a stop and restart, but kept returning. Is the consensus that these are warning messages that have no functional impact on the suspension action and that my bike just needs a software update to get rid of the messages from reoccurring?

I’d rather not call BMW assist and potentially have my bike out of action for x days whilst this is being resolved- on that point, can anyone advise on my nearest BMW bike dealer (I’m in Saumur).

Thanks
Tony

I did 3500 miles with these error messages, suspension worked fine it just wasn't lowering .

Many thanks both for the information and reassurance. I rode to Perspectives in Beaucouze/Angers that you recommended with no further error messages this morning, but it was closed for all of August! The next nearest Motorrad dealer was in Nantes - they couldn’t have been more helpful, checking the bike out completely. Their advice was to change the ride height setting to max - the bike still lowers when turned off, so that helps with getting off and on for my pillion. On the way back to Saumur, I reset the ride height to Auto and it has behaved absolutely fine with no errors, and I now have the knowledge to set it to max if the error occurs again.

So now I can continue our holiday to the south, but will be checking the bike in to my dealers when I get back, as the main reason for changing from the 1250 to the 1300 was for the Auto ride height adjustment for my pillion and so that I could easily get my feet flat on the floor when coming to a stop. For this function to be flaky means that the main selling points for the bike for us have not been delivered.

Thanks again
Tony

Have a great trip. I stayed in Saumur in July on the way to Pau.

I flew home from Nantes and the bike had a month longer in France.

What a coincidence, we’re going on to Blaye near Bordeaux and then to Pau the next day before having a play in the Pyrenees and ending up in Saint Jean de Luz for a couple of days at the seaside.

Apologies if I've I missed the thread Barry but what happened to your bike ?

Hi Tyzer, I haven’t published it yet as my bike remained in France for a month. Still waiting on BMW telling me what the issue was. They have said the repairer is away until next Monday so they’ll tell me then. I’m 99% I know what the issue was and if I’m correct - there is a potential for all 1300s to fail to start. Bit of an odd problem.

I'd be interested to know what the problem was.

I've had a few problems with my 1300GS since I bought it last December. Although I love the bike and I've done over 3000 miles on it it's still annoying that I have to keep going back to the dealer. The latest, and more serious is with the adaptive ride height, While out riding the dash lit up with numerous messages all relating to the ride height. After booking it into BMW the problem was found to with the hydraulic pump which needed replacing. Hopefully and fingers crossed this is the end of the problems. Bmw have also offered me £350 as a good will gesture for the inconvenience.

My new bike has displayed the following warning on 3 occasions in the first 500 miles.
Is this the same message you were referring to?
Yes. The suspension was stuck in the low position. If it wont raise or lower in the Manuel or automatic position, the the pump is knackered, either way take it back to the dealer. Plus when the new pump is fitted it needs a new software update.

Have you considered deleting the adaptive ride height with a contribution from BMW if it keeps failing??

It's a new bike not sure why I'd want to delete it. If it got to a point where it kept failing then I'd want the bike replaced. Although that's very difficult, I've had an engine blow 3 times under warranty and they still wouldn't replace the bike. But it still cost them a lot of money in the end.

Were the engine problems on the 1300?? Apologies if you’ve been through this in another thread….

This problem doesn't effect the main suspension unit, it's just the ride height. Even if it gets stuck in the low position which mine did it's still rideable, just don't try to get your knee down. Enjoy your holiday.
