1300 GS Suspension and Adaptive Ride Height Errors

I've had a few problems with my 1300GS since I bought it last December. Although I love the bike and I've done over 3000 miles on it it's still annoying that I have to keep going back to the dealer. The latest, and more serious is with the adaptive ride height, While out riding the dash lit up with numerous messages all relating to the ride height. After booking it into BMW the problem was found to with the hydraulic pump which needed replacing. Hopefully and fingers crossed this is the end of the problems. Bmw have also offered me £350 as a good will gesture for the inconvenience.
Hi Bryan,

Many thanks for your post, my bike is booked into Pidcocks where I bought the bike from on my return from France. I’ll definitely share the info from your post. I’m keeping a log of each time the error messages occur - it appears to be during periods of stop/ start slow moving traffic when the suspension is set to Auto and cycling through the low and then normal settings.

Fooking warning lights appeared again today on a ride to Ribblehead, stopped, turned ignition on and off to sort it didn't happen again for the rest of the ride.Question is can I be arsed taking it back to the dealer for the 3rd time!

A quick update - my bike went into Pidcocks yesterday to investigate the various suspension error messages. They identified that the suspension sensor needed recalibrating and have asked that I use the bike to see whether the error messages reoccur.

They have also committed to a £350 goodwill gesture, so I’ll probably put that towards a 3 year service plan as I’m just coming up to my 6000 mile service.

Out on a ride yesterday and same messages appeared on my screen .

Suspension not reacting to adjustment and I also noticed what looks like a fine misting of oil like substance on my dash but seemingly nowhere else.

Checked fork legs and left hand side was not as clean as right one.

Bike was ‘ stiff ‘ on my ride back home.

Will contact dealers tomorrow and checked whats best to do.

I don’t fancy riding my ‘ brick ‘ 90 miles to them 🤔

Is 90 miles your nearest BMW Motorrad dealer??. You can take it to any dealer if it's under warranty.

Best of luck with what???.
Taking it to another dealer for warranty work
I had a battle to get my warranty work done initially, as the dealer did not supply the bike, so there taking on an unknown effectively

And what you think is warranty, may not be, and they have to cover the costs.. Hence the reluctance

No dealer in South Wales anymore, so I’ve used Cotswolds for servicing.

My intention is to contact them tomorrow and go from there. 👍

It's a manufacturers warranty, not a dealer warranty, so as long as whichever BMW dealer you take it to contacts BMW to clear it that they will cover the fault it shouldn't be a problem.
This one seems to be a definite error message so unless the customer has done something it should be a clear cut warranty claim to fix it. Original 3 year motorrad warranty has very few exclusions. Battery and other wear & tear items won't be covered. But even the original dealer 90 miles away won't cover those either.
Don't see a downside going to a nearer BMW dealer, they'll get paid by BMW for any work they have to do so why turn a customer away.

I think Santas comments relate to NHS local Health Boards than BMW Motorrad .

I deduce that from his statement that he seems to be talking about the human anatomy ………….. a load of Bollocks than motorcycle warranty 🤔

However, I am prepared to publicly apologise if the dealer I contact support his post. 😬😂

Santa is talking out of his arse from a sample of one experience

You will get good service at Cotswold. They are very well used to people taking bikes there after piss poor experiences at other dealers. The only difficulty at the moment is getting a service slot as they have been inundated with an invasion of Welsh riders since the demise of M&P. Should be a bit quieter this month, though.

Thanks Wessie.

As sad as it is to loose a dealer in South Wales, I have used. It’s wolds and totally agree with your comments. 👍

Absolutely right it is a manufacturers warranty,

But it has to go through a dealer to be given the green light (or not)

I had a failed fuel filler flap - approved used bike bought from a dealer in the west country, - about 200 miles away

I used one of the 3 local dealerships to me

The stance was until they verified the problem it may not be a warranty case & even then it may not be green lit by the mothership

(according to the warranty - sensors are covered, yet they (mothership) declined the failed cam sensor found during a bigger problem issue)

And If it was found to be not a warranty case , i would be liable for the time taken to get to the end result (warranty / non warranty)

Because they did not supply the bike, they did not know it's prior history

(unlike car dealerships) they do not share or record any work done, its all kept with whatever dealer has done work

Perhaps i was unlucky, who knows ..

Yawn, 1/10 for effort , is that the best you can do??

Find someone else to troll ,
You know fuck all about the problems i had, so take your smug self righteous comments and shove them right up your arse

oh do fuck off, princess

If you are going to make generalisations from your individual experience, you are going to get called out as a bullshitter

Approved used warranty is not the same as the original manufacturers 3 year warranty. This bike is a 1300gs, so will be under the original 3 year warranty.
The approved used warranty has some item exclusions (flap in the exhaust being one notable item), the original warranty has very few exclusions. Fuel cap may have been an exclusion?? (I don't know, just a possibility.) . If it was excluded or any part of your problem was, then the dealer would be wary of taking on the job unless you agreed to pay for any expenses for investigating if the warranty wouldn't cover it. This isn't unusual nor unreasonable.

Indeed,
However mine was under the 2yrs approved used (cover everything) warranty, so quite a shock to be given the cold shoulder , when trying to get it sorted

Under the 2yr cover all warranty i had
FFF
LHS switch cluster
Rear shock -not covered due to mileage (with goodwill it cost me north of 1K)

Extended warranty
Throttle assy
Throttle wiring loom
Cam shaft sensor - not covered under warranty (sensors are covered by the warranty though) ??
Main ECU
FPR
Throttle body
