1300 GS Suspension and Adaptive Ride Height Errors

Indeed,
However mine was under the 2yrs approved used (cover everything) warranty, so quite a shock to be given the cold shoulder , when trying to get it sorted

Under the 2yr cover all warranty i had
FFF
LHS switch cluster
Rear shock -not covered due to mileage (with goodwill it cost me north of 1K)

Extended warranty
Throttle assy
Throttle wiring loom
Cam shaft sensor - not covered under warranty (sensors are covered by the warranty though) ??
Main ECU
FPR
Throttle body
"Approved used warranty" is not the same as the full warranty which comes with new bikes, as you found out.

Thanks Wessie.

As sad as it is to loose a dealer in South Wales, I have used. It’s wolds and totally agree with your comments. 👍
I went to Cotswold after Blade in Rednall closed, initially for serving my 1200GS that I'd bought from Blade and have had very good customer service from the service team. I've since bought 2 new bikes from them and the customer service has been excellent from Steve Guest in sales.

The approved used is the same as the factory warranty no restrictions on claims or costs.

The extended warranty, has excess's. And cost ceilings

Have it your own way. I know 100% that the approved used warranty is not the same as the original warranty. As an example a jammed flap in the exhaust pipe is excluded because the exhaust system is excluded in the approved used warranty, as many have discovered. Under the original warranty the whole exhaust system is replaced.
Plus all this has nothing to do with the original post which relates toa 1300gs which will only be 1 year old at most & covered by original manufacturers warranty. So suspension errors will be covered.

you are wrong about the exhaust flappy thing , a member on this very forum has had his changed under his " used approved warranty ".
Do a search on hear if you don't believe.

Exhaust system is excluded. -- been there, done that.
If it was changed it was either still also under manufacturers warranty or done as a gesture of goodwill. Exhaust system is excluded in the T&C's of the approved used warranty,. Unless they've changed it in the last 2 years.

I have found the original post by the member bigcats ,
He had his headers replaced by the dealer he bought his "used " aproved bike from .
I'm no good at copying the links to forum pages but if you do a search you will find big cats post posted in April this year.

I know some get the complete pipes replaced FOC but if it's outside the 3 year warranty it's done as a goodwill gesture or was a fault the dealer should have known about when the bike was sold. There are forum posts where both acceptance & refusals have occured when the exhaust flap valve was stuck. I have had two sets of pipes replaced on 2 different 1250s I owned but both were done under the 3 year warranty. I hadn't even noticed the problem but the dealer picked it up during services.
I have also had the same fault refused a fix on a previous R1200gs as it was only under the approved used warranty. I tried to argue the case but sure enough in the t&C's of the approved used warranty there under exclusions is "exhaust system".

Don't see a downside going to a nearer BMW dealer, they'll get paid by BMW for any work they have to do so why turn a customer away.
Because warranty work is not as lucrative as repairs and servicing to bikes from ordinary paying punters. I think I’m right in saying that manufacturers set the price and time allowance for any warranty work to be done which may not match the dealers expectations.
Warranty work is probably `break even` at best so are reluctant to take on `someone elses` problem.
However, a good, sympathetic dealer will take it on to garner a good reputation etc which could pay off down the line with a new bike order for instance but it should come as no surprise that some would prefer not to.
A workshop aint gonna make any money just doing warranty work.
Sounds like Cotswold are a good dealer though.

I think Steve has been there for almost as long as Cotswold moved into their new palace in Cheltenham. I bought my RS from them in 2016 when they were in that shitty place in Gloucester. I bought my bike from a S.African chap called Rob who went to North Oxford. I think Steve replaced Rob c 2017. It's a good sign if a sales person stays with a company as a) they must be meeting the employer's expectations, b) they are being paid well enough and linked to that is the most important, c) they treat customers well so they go back.
I've blagged many a demo bike from Steve but he has not sold me a bike as I just couldn't see any reason to change the RS, which has recently had its 8th birthday. He never offered enough money for the RS or XR to pique my interest.

I had my exhaust headers replaced under the warrantee. bike was 3yrs 6mnths old when purchased from Williams and the work was carried out by Reiten without any problems. The exceptions listed in the used bike warrantee are exhaust pipes, silencer and collector boxes, so it could be a lottery if you get the work done -or not.

If you treated the dealership with the same discourtesy as you do fellow contributors on this forum, you get what you deserve . 🙈

Spoke to Cotswold today and as always greeted with a warm but sympathetic welcome.

Offered 2 options :

Get bike recovered to them and returned by same means when repaired.

Ride up to them and have a loan bike until repair completed.

Like always they are a fantastic dealership IMO. 👍

An update for the benefit of all.
Rode my bike up to Cotswolds Motorrad on Wednesday ( yesterday ) for a 0930hrs appointment.

Greeted by Matt and his colleagues in the Service Department and the bike was take over to the workshop.

A condition inspection was completed, the bike then received a large amount of software upgrades. It was evident that this was going to be a timely process and I was offered a loan bike to return home.

My first ever ride on a 24 model R1250rt was enjoyable if a little cramped for my long legs. Radio was great !

Had a call this morning again from Matt with an update which goes as follows :

Suspension faults were logged on the bike which seem to be the cause of the problem I reported.
Additional software installs rectified this issue.

In addition, the started motor was replaced following another fault code log. This was a little surprising as I never noted an issue .

I’m collecting my bike on Saturday morning and I look forward to seeing the Cotswolds team to thank them personally.

I cannot praise them enough 👍

Matt's a top bloke and a real asset to the dealership and I've always recieved excellent service from him when my bikes been in for a service. Cotswold are not my nearest dealer but I happily travel the extra distance involved to use them.

My new bike has displayed the following warning on 3 occasions in the first 500 miles.
Is this the same message you were referring to?
Got these messages today on my replacement bike with less than 500 miles on it. Hopefully sorted easily or it’s off to Honda.

Barry

Be sure it's had fully updated software
Hi TM, I’m seeing most people get these errors about the 400mile mark and a software update sorts it. Fingers crossed as I’d a good spin out today for about 130miles of twisty and quiet roads.

Barry

Is there a reason why theses updates can't be done before delivery, not what you need Barry after all the trouble with your last bike

Exactly what I thought yesterday Tyzer, took the edge off a good spin plus I need to visit the dealer again. If I get any more issues it’ll be my last BMW. Fingers crossed
