Looking for some guidance please or if anyone else has experienced the same issue. Went to start the bike this afternoon, haven’t ridden it for around 10 days, absolutely no power. Tried the under seat method of trying to initiate some power, nothing. BMW Assistance came out to have a look- they got some power but immediately had a message pop up, see photo. It’s a lithium battery and the assistance fellow said to get it recovered and not to event attempt jump starting or charging it. Anyone else had the same message?

Ah no, that’s the message I got on my first 1300before the electrics started f’ing up. May be just a cell in the battery hopefully.

I know it's annoying, but you have warranty, so don't mess with it, avoid the obvious thermal run-away risk & just do exactly as the Assistance guy said.

Maybe tell the dealer you want an AGM - they will already be aware of the high lithium battery failure rate on the 1300s..

I got my lithium changed to an AGM foc on my 13 as they can be troublesome particularly when it is a bit cooler.

This appears to be a known problem, I read a few reports before backing my 1300, all does seem to revolve around the battery though

Bike recovered today and now sitting in the dealership awaiting diagnosis on Monday…

Wednesday ;) they have a 48hr window to look at breakdowns , and whats before you comes first :D
So I’ve found out today after having to chase on several occasions… apparently it’s on charge overnight

HI, I had the very same issue. In order to get it looked at under warranty, the bike had to be collected/recovered and taken to my local dealer for diagnostics. They took the battery out and charged it overnight. The next day it worked fine so they refitted it and delivered my bike back. Annoying, but now all working absolutely fine.

One thing I would say with the lithium battery (and cold weather in particular) is have you ever looked at the battery voltage when you flick the ignition on? Even after a full charge, in the morning on a cold day my battery is at 6v when ignition is turned on. After about 10-15 seconds, with ignition and lights on the battery warms up and hits 12v plus - then I start the bike no problem. Bet if I tried to start at 6v the bike would freak out! Is a known problem with lithium batteries and cold weather - moral of story warm it up before you go go!

The voltage reading in the My Vehicle screen is not a direct battery reading, it is counting up voltage in the system as various elements initialize one by one. A LiOn battery does not start at 7 volts and slowly rise over a number of seconds. It is always (if properly charged) at or above 12.6 volts.
