Can anyone tell me if they have done this on a Dakar and if they experienced any low speed handling advantages?
Also any advice on quality Chains and sprockets would be appreciated and the best place to buy.... Been Googling but the internet super market is f'ckin massive and as usual very confusing.

Oh, and lastly if trying to order 15T front instead of 16T do you just phone the supplier? on all the online sites when I put my bike details in it only offers the 16T option..

Sorry for all the questions :blast

And thanks in advance :blagblah

Ok, answered my own question with regards to ordering.

Part numbers for Renthal to save anyone else the searching are:

Front sprocket - 305-520-16 (Standard 16 teeth)
305-520-15 (15 teeth version)

Rear Sprocket - 127A-520-47 (Standard 47 teeth Aluminium)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone also tell me if any 520 pitch with 112 links chain will fit? :nenau

Regards

JC :type

Without going out and counting them on Ange's bike I'm pretty sure 112 links is long enough with your gearing.

I wouldn't bother fitting an alloy rear one, fit a steel it'll last much longer:thumb

Chains: RK Heavy Duty are about the best, I've no idea why those with chain problems on 800s don't fit them:rolleyes::blast

Hiya Jona, I would only use a 15 teeth gear if all my riding was around town , But if you also use the bike on motorways / carriageways you will notice that you will need more revs at cruising speeds that the 16 tooth gear,
Not my cup of tea, But up to you mate :rob

Cheers mate, I'll have a quick look into those RK chains. Also been told off someone else that the Steel rear sprocket is a lot stronger and also cheaper, heavier I know but I suppose a few grams won't be noticed on a Dakar.

Hi Andy, I do quite a bit of town riding and have noticed it's not ideal at slow speeds (roundabouts, in and out of traffic etc) hence asking about the drop to 15. I do however have about 25 miles on the motorway for my commute every other day so I need to weigh up the pro's and cons.

Might give it a try as its only a few quid and a quick change back if I need to :thumb

Hello again :)

Where do you purchase your RK chains mate?

Thanks JC
