I ran in my new 1600 over two days of last week, it being a replacement for my 2011 (one of the first registered) bike.

Changes:

(1) Unlike my original bike (and several others of the first batch of bikes to be released) this bike does not pull to the left.

(2) The bike came with keyless ignition and fuel cap. This integrates well with the central locking function for the panniers.

(3) The spare plastic key WILL start the bike and run it all day everyday, should you lose the main key. The owner's manual explains it all. Take it with you when travelling!

(4) Something of a novelty, the bike came with the 'hill start' capability. A first I thought it was just a frivolity but it does work well and is useful just as a handbrake if nothing else. It works - you pull the front brake lever right back and then release it - by applying the rear brake automatically when the bike is stationary at any angle. When you pull away the traction control light flashes briefly; the front wheel moving faster than the rear, obviously.

(5) ESA II is not so very different to ESA I, though my original suspension was getting pretty tired after 48,000 miles.

(6) My original 11 plate bike had the 'egg beater' phenomenon , common to many of the first edition bikes which was never cured. The new bike does not have it.

(7) The onboard display now features the abilty to display the bike's voltage, if that sort of stuff bothers you.

Other than that, not much else other than it's white.

Sounds great, I quite like those features on my RT, the hill hold control is handy like you say, if for no other reason than to be a handbrake.

Something on the RT that I had to get used to is it seems to take 5 seconds or so after switching off the ignition for the fuel cap to unlock (keyless ignition) which is probably just the electronics closing down.

Any pictures of the noble steed?

OK, I'll ask, whats the 'egg beater phenomenon ?

If you ride along at about 30 on a neutral throttle, say in a line of traffic flowing along at thirty miles an hour, the drive makes an odd 'whisk...whisk....whisk' type noise and some vibration, rather like a egg whisk that you turn like a hand drill'. It was not dissimilar to riding a chain driven bike with a seized or broken link.

I hadn't noticed the delay over the fuel cap opening.

Congratulations on your new K.
I had a 2012 GT until last March and loved it. In red, the fastest colour.
Had to go as I was finding the weight a bit of a handful.
Always found the gearbox and transmission disappointing although I hear they're a lot better now.
Still miss it but enjoying my GS.

Does it have a reverse gear? Some of the road cambers around here make it almost impossible to haul my HexHead GS away from the kerb. Anything bigger would need a tow.

Nice one Wapping, I picked up by Black '65 plate a couple of weeks ago but I haven't had the chance to run her in yet. I had an early edition White one, which was as clunky as hell. I swapped that for the revised 'box in 2014 and it was a massive difference. Pleased to say that the gearbox is fitfully smooth on the new model too. What do you think about the difference in the gearbox (if any)?

oh go on - let's have a pic

Wapping doesn't take pictures of his awesome bikes. He says that people that take pictures of their bikes are buffoons. I agree with him.:D

plus one on the hill start great little add on and worth it .

Wapping, I have a 2015 GT with 5100 miles on the clock. When I go over a bump I get a rattling noise coming from somewhere up front and I don't know if ' they all do that sir' or not. Anything from yours? I would go on the 1600 forum and ask them but they are more worried about where they can stash their 44's on board at the moment...
I also got a tiny bit of Germany stuck between the fan and radiator which brought the mighty beast to an almost dead stop. Thinking it was just running hot I had BMW have a look. They lightened my wallet by £94 to remove said item. Just a warning for anyone else who owns one.

Rattling... Like most bikes, the fairing will rattle a bit and / or maybe amplify noise when cracking along over bumps.... Buy better ear plugs.

Pictures..... Get a life!
