165/155/240/24 - The magic numbers for the new GS !

I’m no fan of the Austin Vince philosophy but I really can’t see the need of a 160hp on/off-road bike which is what the GS was originally created for.

The GS is no off-road bike anymore but due to the low-down tractor like Torque easier to ride off road than either KTM or MS...40 years ago when people took the Yamaha XT 500 to the deserts of Africa the GS was a relevation with 50 hp and 200 kgs to do the same but better with more power and comfort...But these days are long gone as even then the R89G/S was the best streetbike BMW had made so far...Today the GS is the best bike for the ROAD for everything besides the Track...Kind of what the sport-tourer category used to be.What bike is better than a GS for road-riding ? No one ! But I can see that there are people who want a more consequential GS for the street with more hp/NM / less weight, lower handlebar,17" wheels as a R1300XR or M1300GS that there could be also a market for a more dirt-worthy GS simpler and lighter closer to the origional idea for people actually overlanding on the trip of their lifetimes...BMW could make a bike like this out of the R9T...IMHO Time will tell !

Unfortunately I’m not one of them people, I spend as much time off road as I do on road but I’m not the average GS rider. Maybe a should be looking at older lighter bikes. I do keep looking at building a r9t off road bike.

I think Touratech already build the ultimate machine for you based on the R 9 T...They even raced it at the Erzberg Enduro and it placed quiet high if I remember right...:thumb2 You probably should look for a used R1200GS HP that came pretty close to your ideal...Back in the days (2006-08) I looked at them too but too small tank,no bags and fork brought me quick to my senses...;) Who knows if BMW makes bikes like these again ?
I still like the R1200S in HP2-S flavor and would have bought one if it had been a tad more practical...But no bags, centerstand or pillion...no sale ! Would love if BMW would come out with another one with the 1300-1400 cc LC Boxer but this time without the shortcomings of the older one :thumby:
Like the S1000RR but not as extreme with T-L & Boxer...The stuff dreams are made of !!!

Ive always wanted a sauce but I think they are over priced for what they to be honest, the touratech bike is really nice as well but again an expensive outlay, I’ll keep punishing myself and my GS for now.

Yes expensive it is but pretty close to what you were asking for ! A dirtbike with a boxer engine...Very limited targed audience same as their Vagabond a Enduro based on the R1200R with long forked off road suspension both around 200 kilos wet if I remember right...I think if they do the same as the did back in 2004 with the then all new R1200GS coming from the R1100/1150GS with +20hp/-20kg on the next Gen-1300 GS...that would be a Huge and realistic accomplishment !
