I want to fit R1200S 17" sports wheels with 180 rubber on a '04 1200gs. Any idea whether they will fit with a standard exhaust? If not, can the exhaust sit further out with a washer without fouling the Vario pannier?

the exhaust needs to be spaced out ,stand needs to be cut down for more clearance with tyre. wheel bolts need to be longer . i have a front and a rear wheel . front wheel calipers need a bit more clearance .aftermarket exhaust akro fits no problem.

My 05 gs is on 17 with BSB tyres, mental. i am tempted to try them on the 10 GSA but i think the GSA is more suited to the intermediate tyres.
Cut a bit off the LH tang of the center stand and put on an aftermarket can or better still a full system.
The rear wheel i got is offset slightly to the left but it does not effect handling.
I dont know how BMW do it The GS is so stable and yet such light steering.

They do not hold their value like a GS so you could get a newer bike in a swap?

I met a deaf German R1150GS rider at a mini rally for deaf bikers in Scotland last month and he said he has uprated his R1150GS to 120BHP and replaced both wheels with R1150 RT wheels!!! He also added that handling is fantastic like a sportsbike through tight bends thanks to the RT wheels. He managed to top 250kmh! That is 155mph!

now why post a stupid quote like this. if the man wants sport bike performance on his GS, why buy a sport bike. you cant sit-up on a sport bike, carry panniers and loads of luggage or tow a trailer, you cant go up and down stairs, or down gravel roads, or through deserts, or over mountains, or must i keep going...... put sport wheels on and here comes a super bike killer on the B-roads....choice is yours mate. Correct! Because he was in Scotland, he was able to tour all over Scotland in comfort on his GS fully laden with aluminium cases, camping equipment and so on that a sports bike can't do! His German friends had trouble keeping up with him! Certainly he made me feel rather smallish on my twin cam 110 BHP R1200GSADV! Well I might as well revamp my bike one day!
