Has anyone done it?
What modifications did you have to make?
Which wheels did you use?
Just sensible ,creative answers please?

Is this for cosmetic or tyre size reasons? I run an 1150 and am just going through the process, it was mainly for tyre choice but as i can now get 010 to fit, the ease of cleaning and the look are keeping the transformation on the cards, I know it'll alter the steering a tad but as the 1200 already has cast wheels, it may be an expensive conversion at the mo'...until some RT/ST get into breakers maybe????
Keep us informed/pics etc
All the best

Just to make sure I understood you, are you saying that you can now get 010's in GS sizes? I thought it was only 020's that had a 19" front fitment and 150 rear.

Cheers

Erm, it may well be the 020...anyway, some proper road biased tyre...sorry if I got yer hopes up

I've been thinking of doing this as well but...

I'm currently running 020's and seem to have plenty of grip since I can bounce this bike from toe slider to toe slider without problems.

My questions would be - wouldn't you loose some cornering clearance by doing this? Seems to me that if you change the front from a 19 inch to a 17 inch that would lower the bike about 1 inch in the front. What would happen to the cornering clearance? Without hanging off I already use up all that I have in the twisties.

As the 12 has much quicker steering than the 1150 due to its steeper steering head angle, there is a good chance that a 17" front wheel might make it a bit too quick. The smaller rolling radius of a 17" front wheel would lower the front of the bike, further increasing the steering head angle, hence quicker steering, but... the trail, which is what gives you stability could go past its 'safe' point and you may end up with an inherently unstable bike. There is only one way to find out :D Keep us posted if you go for it :thumb

I think I'll let someone else go first ;)

Yes this is an 1150 no speed drive wheel had to change the bearings & i think it looks very like the rear will fit when i need tyres

Does short fat and sackless mean you once needed a third wheel to keep you upright ?

Hi DOT250, there is a 1200Gs running round the north east with 17" wheels. I have seen it parked at Mill Garages, they may be able to tell you what has been done. As far as i could see it was running 1200ST wheels and i believe they required a bit of grinding on the spokes to cleart the callipers!

Thanks --have you an address or better still a telephone no for them please?

Here's a few pics from a German company that offer 12GS conversions that someone posted links to earlier...

Looks like they're RT/ST wheels and a 180 rear at that... Not big on the KTM colour scheme mind you...
