Gorgeous looking bike.

How did you polish the engine covers?

See post #144 above. The actual polish is a kit I've had for a good few years, I can't remember the name. It's 3 different compounds and mops used in a cheap B+Q electric drill. (y)

Excellent, if you get it run in before the 23rd, you could take it for a good thrashing.

It reminds me of the bikes we used to ride back in the 70's - unsilenced Brit' twins with cowhorn bars...no frills (or brakes :D) just....braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!!........not a care in the world.....

I've really enjoyed the thread and I just love the bike. Very well done Sir.....:thumb2

Just echoing what others have said here but that is truly a lovely job and I’ve enjoyed coming on the journey in your posts. Looking forward to the next one

Great job.
I did wonder about the tank rack ( knacker basher!) on a bike designed for off road mainly….but if you say it was as they were built, then I accept your greater knowledge….. m sure most racers removed it tout suite before taking the bike onto a flat track, or into the desert.

Bike looks fantastic…..great job No6.

The tanks were no doubt all built up to the same spec and then just fastened on to the bikes irrespective of which model they were. There is a chap on the Triumph Rat forum who bought one new in 1965, he posted a picture showing it with the tank rack and he'd also fitted a rear light unit. The second picture is from the US sales brochure, again showing the tank rack. (y)

I don’t doubt they came with the rack….. great to have original pictures tho’.
Just seemed strange to me the two main USA importers sold an off road bike with a tank rack…..but as you say, it’s probably that they just grabbed a tank and slapped it on any bike going out the doors.

No health & safety back then!…

It looks like new in the photos but I bet in the metal it’s way better than it was off the production line. I’m in awe of your dedication and skill.

I've seen tanks with the racks removed and plates fitted in their place using the screw holes. The plates were used to trap spare throttle cables should one break during the race :thumby:
