As per the title, I'm going to have a look at an early K100RS so 8 valve. No ABS, I think. Anything other than the obvious stuff to look out for?

You may have seen this article?

Are you looking at the project bike on eBay at Embra ................. or Dalkeith?

I had a K100RS SE and found it a great commuter bike daily into Canary Wharf. It was my reintroduction back into bikes after many years and I loved it. However the clutch decided to break up one day which I believe was caused by rust on the dive shaft? So may be worth checking maintenance history. Picture from 1994.

@Posh Pete You need to start it from cold

Early versions suffered from the Intermediate shaft only being 6 rivet

If it is high miles
Not had an Easy life
not had regular oil changes

and you hear a bit of rattle when you start from cold

It likely needs the Auxiliary shaft!

This, rattles like hell when cold, but when warm it’s as quiet as a mouse.
Check the lowest point of the petrol tank, the small lobes each side, if you get my meaning.
Water collects inside the tank, and the aluminum crumbles and turns porous.
They’re getting to that age and I’ve sold couple tanks this year to owners suffering the problem,
Early bikes had a dodgy fuel tank electrical connector near the front of the tank, later had a better connector plug at the rear.
Early instrument/speedo pods were also not very robust, they also had two fuel warning lights, later had one. Also the early seats had a metal base which rotted, the later (post 86) seats are different and have a different tailpiece so it works out very expensive to upgrade to later spec (mind you not sure what the cost is nowadays as it’s many years since I’ve done a conversion ..
Early exhausts are also different, the heat shields are shitec

If it's an early one might have the 6 rivet output shaft. Steptoe will have all the info on these I'm sure.

I see the Doctor got there first 👍

Thanks all. I'm going for a look later this morning. I'll know more after that.

'89 model SE. Metallic white/blue paint. Loved that bike

Got foggy sometimes.

It's a genuine bike. Vendor, in his mid 80s, is clearing the decks. 15k miles. Oil has not been changed since ... but it sounds sweet enough and starts willingly. I assume the chap put a new battery in it to sell it. He's had the bike for 30 years and its last MoT ran out nearly 15 years ago. Since then on SORN. Still has the original tool kit. Unfortunately, while mechanically sound, it's not been cared for in the garage and is cosmetically ... er ... challenged! So given my lack of space in the lock up, it's a no for me! Chap wants £1500 which I said was a tad rich given the cosmetics but if anyone is interested then drop me a PM and I'll pass on contact details.

That’s too rich as my lovely one was £2k including loads of spares and has been exceptionally well looked after.

It's also worth checking for oils leaks under the water pump and under the flywheel, a common problem when not used regularly.
The wind defector on the top of the screen is a week point as well.
I bought a lovely silver one off a club member with 10k miles on it, but had to do a surprising amount on it just it had been standing for so long.
Now it's done I'm very happy with it. I would post a picture but never been able to. M

My one had the earlier version of the ABS and the first time it cut in I nearly crapped myself….it was a shock to say the least.
