does anybody know anything much about the bike and

the availibity of parts etc also dod anybody own one

and what are they like off road tight woodlands with steep climbs

is what sheel be doing i use a 1999 xr250 at the moment but will

do this one up for a friend only if 1. i can get the parts and

2. if the bike is worth fixing in the first place any advice opinions greatly appreciated.

Don't touch with barge pole.

Bro has one and can't get bits for love nor money. There's also something about a ferrous bearing surface that results in oil needing changed every 2k or something goes/siezes.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but figured it was better to be vague than quiet.

This site is good for Old / Import Japanese parts and has XL250 bits -

As for its off-road ability - heavy and slow if remember correctly ,I had one ride on a Yamaha DT175 MX and traded my (slightly older model ) XL 250 as soon as I could.

Bits are easily obtained, If the bike is the RFVC model they are readily available from Dave Silvers and Honda, also look in the back of Trails and Motocross News for a breaker called Ellastone Off Road, in Staffs they regularly break them (engine is as per 1984 to 1995 Xr 250 and XLR250 imports). Also DK Spares have had a few in and if all else fails there are regularly bits turning up on E Bay.
As for riding them the twin carb model can be a pain re hot starting but other than that they are okay off road if a bit heavy tehy are however very comfortable on road.
You can greatly improve them by putting the complete disc brake front end on off any post 1987 bike and getting a later rear shock
