1988 R100GS - odd bracket?

I'm doing a bit of gentle refurbishment on my '88 GS, re-finishing a few of the tubular steel bits - engine bars, pannier frames etc.
A couple of things - was the frame paint of the time gloss or satin black? Mines more satin than gloss, but maybe that's what 30 years does...

Also, there's an odd bracket from the LH rear of the subframe to the rear mudguard. I've often wondered if it's standard, or an add-on? There isn't an opposite one on the other side. Could anyone with a similar bike tell me if they have the same?

Perfect, all the answers, thanks. The waggle bracket has gribbled a big hole in the mudguard - hopefully penny washers and RTV will sort that out.
