Working on the bumble bee at the mo, I think the only bit that's unrestorable now is the bloody spokes, they are rusty as feck. Front is worsest, from what i've heard, these wheels aren't rebuildable easily, and replacing spokes seems to be a real pain in the arse. What are the options for a shed mechanic...
Can you get a front wheel that'll fit off an older BMW? Not bothered about the tubeless spoke design.
I know the back wheel will have to stay - but those spokes are so oily I don't think they'll ever rust.
Has anyone here had front spokes replaced? Any answers appreciated...
Cheers
Jez

They're easily rebuildable and the spokes and nipples are easily available from the normal places. Don't let anyone out there put you off. I've bought several GSs over the years with rebuilt wheels. Can't recommend anyone to do it but someone will be along shortly to do so.

Steve.

I think that Hagon can take them on. Not as impossible to get them done as you might believe......

Central wheels Birmingham, they charge about £500 the pair........maybe a touch more if they can't get the spokes out easily!
This price includes blasting the hub and polishing the rim.

Just for the record they are not easily rebuilable , and 500 quid the pair is a reasonable price if they include blasting and polishing.
Just getting them true is a major problem, getting them true with the factory mandated spoke tension is almost impossible, so just because they are laced up doesn't necessarily mean that the have been rebuilt to OEM spec's, and few are!

Thanks for the replies - I suspect now the Italian bike's looking OK it's time for the Beemer to be looked at, I honestly thought the wheel would be a pig...thanks all

Hi, I will have a good front wheel for sale as soon as I can find an R80G/S front wheel to replace it! I am trying to fit the original front end to my bike as it currently has a R100GS front end fitted and the hub I have bought is too worn for the new bearings.

If I'm not sorted I'd be interested mate - if you get it swapped!
