Hi, my tach reads higher than it should when bike is running and is VERY slow to return when throttle is closed, just curious if a known issue or maybe needs a thorough cleaning? thanks Rob

Are you saying the revs drop okay but the tacho itself is slow to react ??

How are you so sure the tacho is over reading....have you checked with a calibrated instrument,or is it reading many thousands of revs at tickover for instance ??

P.S.

This may be better in the more apt Airheads Forum :thumb

correct, revs come down fine. The needle is just slow in returning, also the needle is at 600 rpm when bike is off?

Hmmm...well,it certainly appears instrument related.

Is it the BMW one or an aftermarket one ???

How is it connected ??

this was one of the symptoms when the rotor/charging circuit failed and the engine was running from the battery. As the voltage on the battery dropped, the electronic tach started to read about a 1000 revs higher and was slow to fall back.
Check the battery and charging, or the wiring to the tach which might have gone high impedance.

thanks guys. stock tach, unsure how connected, have not gotten into it yet.
