1997 BMW r1100gs.

Hi all, to be honest, this is my first night on this forum, but I've read MANY posts in the past three hours.

Anyway, here is my question:

I'm looking at buying a 1997 BMW 1100gs and I wanted to ask if, by getting a 1997 model (though in near perfect condition, with new seats, lights, etc...) would I would be missing any features you guys think would be important?

Go for it, great bikes...

Check out the rear wheel for play...

Can't think of anything else but I am sure someone else will..

Sold mine at 60000miles all original only problems being, hall sensor and fuel filter...
Both relatively cheap fixes

The only thing missing (and then it's a minor detail to most people) is 6th gear. On back roads I prefer the 1100's 5 speed box but on longer fast trips 6th gear is more relaxed.

Depends on your riding wether or not you're missing out, my advice would be go for it as is sounds like you're sold on it anyway

Go for it 1100's are great bikes and they get under your skin, sure they aren't the fastest things in the world, a sixth gear would be nice for those times when you just have to get somewhere and end up on a motorway and the weight is just incredible

But on the plus side put it on the right roads and with the riding position the wide bars, high up visibility and one of the most solid feelings of any bike there ain't much that will get away from you. The weight doesn't matter when you're on the move and lets face it motorways are no fun on anything.

Build quality is probably as good as anything that BMW have ever done (in my opinion!!) so just go for it. Mine has done 77k on a 94 plate and taken me all over the UK western and eastern europe, green laned, commuted done everything you could ask of it!
