On the road, for now:-)
Hi there, I am wondering if anyone has come across this previously.

My 1998 1100 was sitting ticking over just fine on the main stand then suddenly cut out, as if it had been turned off. On looking at the dash there is obviously no power to it as all lights are off wich would usually be on however the clock is still on display. I have checked all the fuses and turning the bars with the ignition on doesnt bring it back to life. The bike had never had an alarm in my ownership and I havent had this before since I bought it 14 years ago. My best guess would be that the ignition barrel is the problem? If anyone can advise me I would be most grateful.

With thanks and kindest regards

The loom is often cable-tied to the headstock and as a result has little room for movement so as the wires age and get brittle they can break especially at the base of the ignition switch. It’s worth snipping off the cable tie if there is one still on and if the wires look okay at the base of the ignition switch peel the insulation back a bit and check the wires underneath. As an aside don’t leave it ticking over for any length of time, being air cooled they can overheat very quickly with dramatic results.
