I just bought an X Challenge and ride that as well as a 1100rs. I bought the X challenge without a trial ride and when I picked it up I couldn't believe how narrow the grips were in comparison to the 1100.
I rode the 650 around 300kms the first day and my hands / forearms were killing me and I was wearing "broken in" gloves etc.
Since doing an extra 1000 or so miles on the bike, I no longer have any aches or pains, so I wouldn't rush out to spend money, give it time for your body to adjust, then decide if you want to change anything.
