Just reading through this thread........

I currently own an R1100GS, I do like it but find it too much sometimes (I'm 5'9", 11 stone) the beast is too heavy when loaded and I want to do try some off road too. Would the 650 Dakar be too tall for me?
Well, you're taller than me and I ride one. I've lowered it now but I rode it as standard (albeit with the lower 650GS seat) for a few months beforehand. You shouldn't have much of a problem. Go and sit on one.

Are you referring to the warranty issue regarding possible overheating? Or are there new developments?

Cheers LN........will do

I was in today, but didn't get down to see the 'Workers' in the engine room

if fitting fork gators cause the bike to overheat they have put too small a radiator on the bike.
i have a 94 funduro and fitted gators after replacing the fork seals i havent managed to get it to overheat yet (i commute 50 mile a day mix of town and fast a/b roads).
the rotax engine does have isues with water pumps on the 94-2000
i dont know if bwm sorted this as they tend to last around 23k
before they start to drip
still a nice bike to ride to work any time of year:D  :D

Hello Rollinsdan,

It's a tough call. I used to have the 1100gs and now have a Dakar. I certainly miss the power and the handling of the 1100 but had to be honest with myself about what riding I'm doing at the moment, which is commuting through London every day and on days off taking a nice ride out somewhere. The dakar is great in town and on longer trips I usually plan it so that I'm not on motorways or dual carrages. I think for a trip down to Morocco you'd appreciate the 1100gs more than the Dakar. That's not to say the Dakar won't do it, it would but you'd have to allow more time, more stops etc.

Sean,

Thanks for your advice. Looks like I'm going to have to go for the suggestion of a test ride........

The thing is, I know I'll want one.......... Anyone want an 1100?!
