Thinking a bout going to Ireland for 7 days in May, looking for advice on the best routes around Ireland and reasonably priced accommodation. Thought about coastal routes. Open to all suggestions.

Cheers
Phil

Atlantic coast road runs the length of Southern Ireland and into Northern Ireland. Many miles of beautiful coast to see and explore. The roads are very good and fun. There's loads of accommodation wherever you end up and in the main it's well priced. It won't be that busy when you are there so no need to pre book accommodation unless you prefer to. See where you end up by 4pm each day and use a site such as booking.com

+1 for the wild Atlantic way. There's even an app for it. I occasionally drive a tour bus and it never fails to impress the tourists. JJH

This pretty much sums it up Beast. You won't have to worry about places being "bike friendly" or any such nonsense you'll be made welcome anywhere.

Given that you say above that you quite fancy coastal routes might I suggest that you sail in and out of Dublin and you could easily do most of the Wild Atlantic Way in a week going N-S or S-N, whatever direction suits you. You could head from Dublin to Derry in an afternoon then work your way south to Cork then back to Dublin or vice versa. As I say, have a think about what it is you would really like to do and we can take it from there.

How many miles per day would you like to do? Bearing in mind of course that you won't average anywhere near the same miles per day here as you might in England. How long do you want to be out and about each day, 9am to 6pm? Once we know that kind of stuff we can get you sorted.

I will be happy to do the whole thing as a Gamin file to suit your gps if needed, once you have an idea of what you would like to do.

If you are doing the wild Atlantic way there is an awaful lot of history going on there. Tha Spanish Armada is a good start. JJH

There is also the Mourne Coastal route running from Newry up to Belfast., taking in the Mournes , Strangford Lough & the Ards Peninsula.

+1 Details of your expectations and wants will help!

Monday to Friday doing the WAW (see "WAW maps" thread from last week), the NW200 races over the weekend & back to the ferry via the stunning North Coast road. Job done...:thumb

Ahem. There will be a story in the next issue of RiDE that may be of use: five-day round trip to the honeypot locations of the west coast - Ring of Beara, Ring of Kerry, Dunloe Gap, Dingle peninsular, etc

That's the south west coast you mention there Simon. There's a lot more to the west coast than that wee bit.

Thanks Aidan, Thought about doing aprox 140 miles per day to allow time for sightseeing & stops. I would prefer to ride in day light hours, covering a variety of roads including coastal, mountain passes and good inland roads. I would like to visit fishing villages, and take in some historical sights. Im looking to stay in B&B or pubs in town location.

You don't say what dates in May but bear in mind the bank holiday weekends. North and south at the beginning and the north at the end, busier roads and B&B's etc.

Have a great and safe trip :aidan:beer:
