Having just takem delivery of a wonderful GS with full vario luggage and been seduced by the 'superior' BMW engineering, imagine my disappointment when I tried to fit 2 helmets into the Vario boxes. Offside fine. top box 1" too small. Has anyone else felt similarly let down? Is there a fix? (except new luggage!). Appreciate your thoughts.

My vario top box when it's extended takes a system 5 
My Mrs can get her Caberg in the top box but my schuberth doesn't fit. (there may be an innuendo in there somewhere
)

On its side!!!!!Damn Ned. I wish I'd thought of that before I bought a GSA (where my Schuberth does fit in the box)!

thats the way to go,loads'a room boyI bought a 46L Givi top box....acres of space.....
My Shoei Multitec fits in my Vario top box and my right hand pannier with ease
I like beer. I tried to put two pints into a one pint glass. It spilt over the side. I felt very let down.
Is there a fix? Yes. Saw helmets in half.

When I bought my '58 GS, I needed a top box for carrying a work bag. I ask the dealer (Rainbow, Rotherham) about the BMW boxes and knowing I was going to carry the occasional pillion I was advised not to get the BWM top box as there isn't room for 2 helmets. I followed his recommendation and got the Kappa 48l which can get 2 helmets in.

Have you tried it facing all different ways?
Some of my helmets fit in upright, but my AGV will only go in in one direction, on its side, with the base towards the back of the bike.

Both my Arai and Schuberth helmets fit perfectly on my head (although not both at the same time).
I have never felt the need or desire to put them in boxes so sorry I can't help with this one
