2 pairs of spots

Just wondering if anyone has successfully managed to fit 2 pairs of spots to their bike? (1150GS)
I'm thinking of having one pair come on with dipped beam and the second pair with main beam.

Maybe this would be too much of a load on the electrical system although this pic from the GSClubUKcom site would seem to suggest otherwise.

cheers in advance
Russ

No problem with the sparks, but you can't use two pairs of Halfords jobbies on the B&Q bar (unless they all dangle) since a pair mounted over the bar obscure the indicators.

Otherwise a bloody good idea.

I was thinking of doing this also. I have 1 set as running lights on the side light circuit.

The pic of fish inspired me also.

My bar is wide enough to have 2 sets :) But they would be close to each other.

Of course you could drop the bar to avoid the indicators.

What about Hepco & Becker bars do they have easy mounting points ? Was thinking of fitting them and it would give a good spread when both sets are on.

I've thought about this too and wondered about one great big f**k off spotlight clamped to the front bar of the H&Cs on the right hand side. I'd have it pointed low as a permanent running light and use my spots in conjunction with High Beam. I'd fit it on the angled front bar as seen in the picie below.

Simon,

I've been thinking about a single spot...looked into offroad lights illegal for road use trouble is they are big.

But I do reckon a 130W 5degree pencil beam punching a hole down the road would be superb.

Anybody got any ideas on a light meeting this spec?

Simon, cheers for that. Yeah I think maybe in front of the exhaust pipes. Cool.

Mike O. That is awesome.

Jon,

I've had a look at these as they've been available form Bracken in London for a while now. The light they produce is pretty impressive but at £200+ it should be. They need a transformaer apparetnly and you can't fit two (one each side) because of either space or electrical requirements (can't remeber which:D )

From what I've seen and read, a good set of halfords spots with some bulbs do as good a job without the need to re-mortgage.

The Xenon lights do look pretty nifty though, in a 007 kind'a way:D

Cheers

Jon I've had the Xenon from Touratech, fitted by Bracken, since last year, it's great on straight roads but no use on the twisty bits. The way forward has got to be auxiliary lighting that "turns" with the bike. I've bought PIAA lamps, an autoswitch - off that fine fellow Mark, now all I need is is one of you sparks techies - Eddie or Malky or Harryexpert - to come up with the plan.

Simon that's correct each Touratech Xenon needs a transformer and there really isn't enough room for 2 between the forks.

Chris,

Which PIAA's did you get? How much and where from?...

...Why do you always join a cue at the back?...Why is the fluff in your belly button always blue?...A man is in the woods without a women anywhere near, is he still wrong?...:D :D :D

Running Lights

just a point but there is no such thing in the UK. just dipped beam.current road vehicles lighting regs only allow additional lamps in conjunction with main beam, further subsection deals with 'fog lamps' and heights from ground to lamp centres.
the same can said for the wide tail lights which will not conform to con and use regs although they do look good.

Yeah but if people feel safer who cares ? This is a debate in itself. Personally I feel much better with them on. I often try them off then put them on and every time drivers react positively, so that is cool.
So I guess if the perception is safer then "better to be judged by the jury than be injured (or worse) by one"

same as above, well apart from the "yeah".
Are you sure ? Can you point me to the regs ?
Why bother I ask myself. Well every so often this is mentioned and yet where are the words ? Would like to see them so please help. Would be nice to definitively know.
Regardless, from a practical point of view, MOT testers don't have an issue and Traffic cops don't have one either. One MOT tester is rigorous enough to fail any American style lighting but still passes Widetail. Of course regs may differ but at least the people I have met and who have seen them some of which are the above professions have no issue in fact the reverse seems to be the case, as they actively like them. Hence it would be interesting to see the regs. If nothing else to see that “the law” appears to be out of step with the practice that myself and others have experienced.

So I guess this is where you reveal you are a Ministry employee or the minister or a traffic policeman or lawyer or ?
Hope you can help coz I really don't know how to nail this issue.
Cheers

Simon T, I love the sig cool
