20:45 in central London….

Thank you.

Much to my shame, I still haven’t done my walk around all the City of London’s many surviving churches and / or those that only remain as bomb sites from the Blitz. It is amazing that so many churches, all different, were crammed into the Square Mile.

It’s amazing how many pubs have gone too Richard, have you retired from reinsurance then?

On a bit further, still following the canal

That’s the trouble with London, heaving with people.

Really enjoyed that! - thanks Richard (y)

Great pictures Richard! Enjoyed the virtual walk - especially in the evening......
I love Wapping - the place not Richard:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: of course. Having a place in Cannnnary Wharf is a bit sterile but its convenient for work. Wapping has character. A weekend favourite is to walk the Thames path (some diversions due to building work) from the Canary Wharf Uber Boats quay all the way to Bank Station (7km). If you are observant there is an awful lot to see. The various ''Stairs'' leading down to the river as example. Richard knows a lot more than I do but I still find it interesting that halfway along Wapping High St, between the Overground Station and the Capt Kid pub there is a large open plot of land clearly unused since the area was bombed during the war. With the land prices around Wapping nowadays there must be a reason its still an empty plot....Dare I say old bomb site? Would love to know the story behind that one. Also the old red Bascule bridge at Wapping Wall is impressive. Looks like a red ""Pegasus'' bridge. Or a bit further on in the King Edward Memorial park right above the Rotherhithe Tunnel is a memorial to some significant navigators of the day. I just find the whole walk fascinating every time we do it.

Despite my dislike of all cities, except Bangkok, you did a very good job of presenting it in a positive light.
Thank you, I enjoyed that. (y)

I still remember laughing, maybe 45 years ago, when some wag had written, very neatly, ‘Hub of the Universe’ beneath Shadwell station on an underground map.

The map alone has an interesting history, recording the arrival and then growth of London’s huge public transport network.

Reminds me of the one from the Green Shield stamp era ( any one remember that?)
Anyway
Often inscribed was “Free Astrid Proll ( or Kroll - can’t remember!) [ Bader Meinhof I think]
To which some wag had added “With every four gallons” - loved it!!

£5 for eat in is cheap. Curious choice of coke, I’m guessing they’ve changed to that since early October.

It was something like £3.75 without the sauce.

As regards the cola; this is Shadwell, not Belgravia.

Barr seems to be the only choice of cola in many halal establishments since the last couple of weeks.

quite funny to think of stereotypical 40' drivers all taking in the culture when they are in London working.
Couple of guys I know used to deliver beef to Vatican City many years ago. Both were treated to early morning, private tours of the Sistine Chapel. A nice little perk of the job.

London; a muggers paradise.
Didn't see much mugging going on in Wappings photos.....although there was one under the bridge by the canal which could have been dodgy......:DD. Looks kind of peaceful really......

I did witness a stabbing in Whitechapel back in 2019, April around 1700 in the afternoon. Put me right off my curry that did.....
Bloke survived but I was impressed how quickly the ''Ol Bill'' turned up out of nowhere..... plain clothed driving these small BMW electric cars and all carrying guns. They had the perpetrator in no time and they didn't piss about arresting him either. All happened as we were walking to have a curry up Brick Lane.
