Couldn't see this posted already so thought that you may be interested to know that the BMW R1200GS was voted as the 2004 International Bike Of The Year. 2nd was the Yamaha YZF-R1 and 3rd, Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Voting is by 12 of the world's leading motorcycle magazines from Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Norway, The Netherlands, Spain, UK, USA, and Australia.

So for those who have bought said motorcycle, you can feel somewhat vindicated in your choice.

I ordered mine in September 2003, delivered in late March 2004, and have been delighted with its performance.

Must be one of the few times that I have agreed with motorcycle journalists !!!

Ciao,

Of course it's got everything to do with the bike and nothing to do with who offered the journo's the best press launch and week in the South African sunshine playing off road all expenses paid .....I reckon I'd vote for the Enfield 650 diesel if they gave me a free week all expenses paid holiday in the sun :D

Best Bike ?

Well if the journalist's had had my bike it would not have won, its broken down three times one rear drive , twice Can bus controller fule pump third dont know yet in dealers tomorow 19/11/04.

Not Amused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You think other manufacturers don't do similar things???

They all do it....the sports bikes get taken to exotic tracks and they hire the whole place for a day (I remember reading one article for a launch based in Malasia for one of the pocket rocket lot).

It's all part of the game

Yep I went to the european launch of the Micra to....Rome...! Lovely, lovely car...(ahem!)
