I have seen a bike I am interested in, a low mileage 2007 R1200 GS Adventure, not seen the bike yet, but it looks a nice tidy bike from the photo's, my only worry is that the bike has chrome rims and not black ones, I was under the impression that they came standard with black rims.

It might seem minor, but why would the rims be changed on such a low mileage bike (15K), I asked the seller and he assures me that they have not been replaced, was chrome rims an option on this year model and I am wrong in my assumption that black was standard ?

The rims are anodised alloy. Presumably some models had clear rather than coloured coating. Check the hubs for corrosion around the spoke holes. They all go around there some more than others. Check the final drive around the gasket line and the rear mudguard screw hole.

Check the engine front cover for corrosion. They go around mounting screws and from under the belt cover bottom screw with paint bubbling. Rear subframe is not remarkably well finished on the 08 and 09. The 07 might still have the better quality paint.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was worried that the bike may have not been Kosher with the wheels, good to get some sound buying advice :thumb2

I don't believe that you got an option with the rims, these came black as standard on my GSA (same year) - :nenau

You know that's what I thought, I have never seem a picture of a GSA with silver rims and they immediately stood out to me as being a bit odd.

The bike has only had two owners and the current one has told me that he did not change the rims, mmmmmm may have to dig a bit deeper before I travel to see it.

all 1200 gsa should have black rims, your rims are from an earlier 1200 gs vanilla, its not a converted gs is it?

I think you have hit the nail on the head, it's advertised as a GS but looks like a GSA, I thought it was a mistake, obviously not. It even has the black GSA forks which made me think that it was a GSA.
Back to searching then, as it's a GSA that I want.

plenty out there, try and wait till one comes up for sale on here.

Can you post a pic or link on here if this isn't now the bike for you? Would be curious to see it, as would many others I guess...

Apart from bodywork the main GSA difference is ride height. It might still be bargain just be sure its not been crashed and rebuilt.

Not worth the risk, would rather wait for the right bike, but thanks everyone for the advice.
