2008-11-23 - Event - Salisbury Plain Enduro

Steve

I think I would like to do this! Would my KTM 640 Enduro be suitable or is it too big a bus? I'm bidding on a couple of CRF250s which I might get in the next week.

Secondly, assuming I get a decent bike, do you think it is suitable for someone of my average ability? I don't care about results I just want to make sure that (1) I survive the event in more or less one piece and (2) don't cause a problem to anyone else as a mobile chicane.

Do you need an ACU licence?

I might regret this when I sober up in the morning.

Don't worry, you're not the only one feeling like that ;)

if today's event was anything to go by, the numbers are such that everyone is pretty spread out anyway and the course seemed wide enough for plenty of safe passing.

know what you mean about mobile chicanes though, I feel totally the same, but having watch Weston it seems the quick ones are also the really manouverable ones ;)

hope the head doesnt heart too much in the morning :D

Only had a few glasses of wine last night so stayed sober. Still looks like a good idea in the cold dreary light of Monday morning.

Just need to confirm the CRF and it should be all systems go.

Anything else I need to know before entering?

Is a twat suit suitable attire?

Life insurance is up to date and I've made a will. :)

Who else from here is entering? Could we have a "Team Tossers"?

Take out all lines if you do about 2 mins from the start, get on and enter as it will close soon, Sid its easy honest if I can do 9 laps.

ok, just printed the form off... so which class is the lowest??? MX??? I know I cant get away with side car as I've not got one :D - not suggesting sidecar is low here though :o

Printed off entry form, filled in, written cheque for £52 total and about to go out and post off. :)

Entered in Sportsman class which is Novice I think.

Reckon this could cost me a small fortune. Wife said I was not allowed to buy any more bikes until I arranged extension on house of new kitchen and bedroom. Just instructed architect to start work.

That's the CRF250 Enduro confirmed and I think I may have bought another airhead as well this week. Hopefully I can pick both new bikes up this weekend on trailer. Going to take a lot of creeping to keep on good side of SWMBO. Last month I bought her a Merc SLK and a Land Rover Discovery for her birthday so she can't complain too much if I add another couple of bikes to the stable.

Why is it that every time I have any contact with Bakerman it costs me a fortune? :D Still haven't given him her dental bill after cracking a tooth on crackling at Hograost.

So we have a team of three with Steve, me and LiquidLan. Need a team name? Any suggestions?:beerjug:

Lan, if they are running a MX class, an enduro bike will sail through a noise test if there is one.

Timpo.

yeah.... class :D that's the other thing I'm trying to work out

whats the difference between MX and Sportsman - where does a first-timer with limited greenlane experience fit?

I'd rather talk myself down than up ;) it's all about setting expectations :D

Sportsman is where you need to be, a 'day out for a ride' type class.
Clubman 'B' and above will be out for the race, this includes MX, who most will be after winning over the enduro experts.

Timpo.

ok, really stupid question

who have you made the cheque out to? SETRA, Mark Andrew, Josie Radford, Save the Whale???

or have I missed something?

Look where it says to put your machine details, engine capacity and stroke. Under there is 'Cheques payable to SETRA'.

Right now shut your computer, make a coffee and calm down........:P

If I can get a couple of lads (or lasses) from the NorthWest to share my van, I'll be doing this event myself. It looked a great venue for an enduro when I visited it earlier in the year for a trail ride.

Timpo.

So who is a definate then ?? who can will lend me a Fire Exting??

ARSE!!! I read the whole thing twice as I knew it would be there somewhere and missed it both time DOH!

thanks:o

Well done, now we pray for rain.

If your comming from a far, your welcome to the floor at Chateax Bakes.

Tip, brand new set of tyres and musses if you can afford them as lots of nasty stuff kicking around.

Last time a phosphorus flare went off under the rear tyre of the bike infront of me.

My turn for another stupid question. What are musses??

What type of tyres? Should I stick with enduro types or are MX knobblies allowed. If enduro tyres, then which ones do you recommend as I know little about off-road tyres apart from TKCs for GS.

Posted entry off this afternoon so should be with them tomorrow.
