Hi All,

I'm in the process of removing my rear shock - already out - and now want to remove the swing arm but I need to remove the right side bearing pin.

What I need, though, is a sliding hammer. Can anyone recommend the kit I need for the job?

Thanks

Mark

Judging by how clean your bike is you may well not need a slide hammer. I haven't used one for removing that part and I had a knackered bearing and a bike in worse condition. The pivot pin is not a particularly tight fit in the bearing. Try removing the three screws around the central one and then use a pair of grips and a rag on the bolt, or use something else to lever it out (without scratching around it). If not, diesel injector pullers can be a good, cheap option if you do need a slide hammer, and you need to find one with a thread the same size / pitch as the bolt in the centre of the pivot pin - M6 from memory, although that could be wrong. A quick Google returns something like this (although price is a bit over the top) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCKER-A...R-MONSTER-MULTISTRADA-SUPERBIKE-/181622233333

The pin isn't particularly hard to remove, it is lowly torqued. Just thread one of the 3 longer outer into the centre and you may be able to pull it off by hand. Otherwise fit a longer bolt and use a socket to drift it out like a slide hammer.

As above Mark. I went to the trouble of buying a slide hammer to do mine, only to find out when I came to it that I could have done it with a pair of grips quite easily.

Just tried it. Found an M6 bolt and pulled the bearing pin straight out with mole grips. Barely a hint of resistance.

Swing arm off tomorrow night and start prepping for a paint job and the shock off for a fettling.

Thanks.

Mark

While you've got it off you should check the swingarm bearings (open on the inside, so can get knackered), check the swingarm gaiters - it has a tendency to split in the valleys where you can't quite see normally, check the driveshaft UJs for tight spots, check the driveshaft has moly grease at gearbox and final drive couplings as BMW factory doesn't grease them, check the final drive pinion for play in pinion bearing, and anything else I have forgotten...
