Hi all - first time forum poster! Need some advice. I have a 2008 RT with 20K on it. On my way down to New Forest for a camping night when suddenly heard a strange noise coming from bike. No immediate loss of power and sounded like the exhaust was blowing or something was covering the end can (like a luggage strap). Stopped within half a mile and realised the sound was coming from the right cylinder. Let the bike cool and re-started and sounded worse. No loss of oil or warning lights on dash. Not sure if related, but very recently got the bike re-mapped by Hilltop as recommended by so many others...

Looking online, I suspect it could be the cam chain either come loose or something to do with the cam chain guide rails / tensioner. After reading a few posts, bit worried that I may have damaged the engine.

Anyone had similar issues or know what this could be? Could the re-map have overstressed the engine? I now have the trouble of getting my bike to a dealer / independent to investigate and resolve - hoping I don't need a new engine!

Any advice or what this issue could be would greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Re map

Re map shouldn't affect the cam chain as it isn't placed under any extra load by remapping. It is simply a 'passenger', the extra power will only stress the piston, crankshaft and drivetrain. The only way i can see the camchain being stressed is if you put stronger valve springs or a different profile camshaft on the bike.
Unless they have dyno tested it and thrashed the arse off it/over-revved it to test the power output??

Turns out it was a cracked spark plug. Managed to remove the broken spark plug and bike is back to full steam!

Glad to know it was fixed. Even better that it was a really simple thing like a cracked spark plug. You dont often hear of really simple fixes on here.

Until now.....
