2009 and 2010 GS Adventures vs. 2014 Triumph Tiger Explorer.

Oh my goodness. It's like walking into a dodgy local pub as an 'outsider'...."You ain't from round 'ere are you?"

Like I say, very tribal and comments consequently often or even usually without basis other than blind brand loyalty. Old son.

I didn't mean that at all and my point was it's a GS forum so of course it will be tribal. I've been on other manufacturers forums and they are all exactly the same. One of the brilliant things about this forum is most people have sense of humour and they aren't frightened to post their thoughts on the GS or in fact any other bike be they good or bad. The range of bikes people ride on here is huge and that is why we have seperate sections for these makes.

I've ridden the EXP and although it's a good bike, it's not for me as I don't need 130bhp, I like a big tank range and I like a bike that can actually go anywhere.

As a matter of interest, what do you ride?

No tribalism as i dont own a gs, triumph etc, but the triumph was a real disappointment, got off thinking yeah its ok but at 11k no thanks, so i spent that money on a multistrada. The basis was at the time having sold a gs and having back to back test rides from same garage with ducati/triumph, one really did stand out as a class act in terms of riding experience.

Just my humble opinion and i dont have an axe to grind.....no need to get your knickers in a twist its only a bike at the end of the day as long as you like it who cares. Oh and welcome to the forum. :thumb2

I've not ridden any of the Tigers since the 1050 when I was looking at buying the GS. But I love the triple motors and my other bike is a 955 Daytona.

I just wanted to make the point about the fuel tank range on the 800xc which I think is risible for a bike marketed as a cross-country adventure machine.

Welcommen :beerjug:

Brand loyalty is great - if that's your bag.
Personally, it isn't mine. BMW, Triumph, Ducati... whatever your two-wheeled steed, you're to be congratulated for thinking out of the box.

We all have preferences. But taken to the extreme, any preference can start sounding tediously bigoted, and bystanders have the right to start asking: "What's your agenda here?"
When a preference includes indictment of someone else's preference, it crosses the line into prejudice.

Christ, you're not going to like it much on here.

Wait until you start reading the stuff on here posted by proper bigots with their real prejudices. :augie

No offence chap but what the f**k are you on about? We are talking about people preferring their GS over a trumpet which doesn't really mean shit at the end of the day but as it's a GS forum, it's not wholly surprising is it:nenau

I'm on about what I'm on about, friend. ;)

Prejudice, in and of itself, means nothing. The harm comes when people start fronting their personal consumerist brand-loyalties as if they were religious beliefs. Y'see, the thing about comparitive religion is that it invariably degenerates into this: :monkeypiz :pissl

Too often lately, I hear the line that you can't fight that kind of bigotry because it's everywhere. It sounds like something out of 'Chips With Everything': "This is the way it's going to be, because this is the way it's always been!" Some of us are willing to poke a stick into bigotry's eye regardless.
I trust you approve? :thumb

I've seen it all now - a white South Effrican preaching about prejudice.

Hell, there's an unbiased, open-minded viewpoint if ever I didn't see one. :topic

There are skeletons in the British closet that wouldn't bear that kind of examination.
You're not presenting a rational argument. You're leaning on a simple diversionary tactic known as 'Appeal to ridicule'.
Charity begins at home, so why not focus some of your righteous fervour in the direction of the British Movement or, if you're a true idealist, on enduring peace in Northern Ireland?

See how laughable this is capable of becoming?
With all due respect, you are perilously close to simple ignorance.

Take it offline guys or start another thread otherwise this will get messy.

Jeez Nick, lighten up and chill out a bit my friend. At the end of the day this is only a motorbike forum! You sound as if you are looking for a cause to follow so if you want to go and poke a stick in bigotry's eye then there must be something far more serious and consequential that will benefit from your crusading than a pointless chat about the merits of different brands of bikes.

Exactly my point, and I don't think I can (or should have to) make the point any clearer. :)

I'm done. See you ladies and gents in another thread.

Pheeewww....thank fuck thats over with :blagblah, now lets get back to motorbikes....

My friend has a 1200Exp and thought it had a handling issue so asked me to ride it. No handling issue, reckon he's got the wrong set up on his suspension as he's smaller than me.

The engine was really nice and responsive, wasn't as much dive on the forks as I expected which is a good thing. Liked the cruise control. The only fault I could find was that the throttle felt a bit light, if you hit a bump you'd end up accelerating a bit. Something you'd get use to in time.

No long range tank so I'll stick to my GSA for now but if they do bring out a bigger tank version I would consider one if I wanted to change the Bm.
