While out today the left hand heated grip failed , right still working fine, so anyone else ever had a heated grip fail , if so what was the verdict ? and was it costly ?
cheers Rich

Not had a grip fail, but I did retro-fit heated grips to my first 2004 model 1200, which was strangely not fitted with them at the factory.

I assume your heating element inside the grip has failed. No big problem as the grips are screwed onto the handlebars beneath the switchgear rear cover and have a small electrical plug connector to allow connection/replacement. About 10 minutes work with a tiny Torx screwdriver to replace.

Luckily for you if you fit a new one yourself, the LH grip is the cheaper one of the pair to buy.

I had one go on a 2009GSA, can't remember exactly how much but less than £60 for the part and about 20 mins to change it myself.

With winter gloves, the standard grips are only just warm enough. A failed grip would be a handy excuse to fit some Oxford hotgrips.

I had the RHS one go, turned out to be the switch was all clagged up. switch replaced (under waranty) all fine after that so it may not be the actual element?

Or leave the OEM items to keep it looking factory, and fit muffs throughout winter, allowing you to ride in summer gloves and keep the backs of your hands warm too. With muffs fitted I hardly ever need the grip heaters on. Not sure if Val.H still sells them on the forum, but they are well worth the modest outlay.

Some fashionistas think they make you look a twat, I reckon I don't need muffs for that I'm a big enough twat already, but a warm happy one.
