2009 GSA 'Hesitation'?

My new bike is at 600 ish miles and seems to want to hold back when approaching 4k, almost like a fairly noticable flat spot - anyone else have this?

I havnt had the bike past 4500 rpm yet so can comment how it is after there.

If you look at the standard power curve from a dyno there is a flat spot at the point you have mentioned. De-cat pipes etc help a bit but it is not a major issue for most people.
 
Remove the cat loads better also the throttle action is quite slow so make sure you give it a good twist !

they all do that sir - EU emission/noise regs...
 
mine did that ..get them to check it at the first service...seems to help a bit ...or twist the throttle more :D
 
My 09 same mileage, no such problem. Should be sorted on service.
 
Dip in torque curve between 4000-5000 rpm.
As soon as you're comfortable with, try going over 5000 rpm and hold onto your hat (helmet). Once arrived at 5500 rpm things get quick (not sportsbike like of course).
And boxer engines take several thousand miles to 'loosen up'. Don't be afraid to search higher rev regions, or you'll have a 'lazy' engine.

Bike need lots of up and down roads with lots gear changing and pulling up to 4000-5000rpms to bed the engine in nice and tight...:thumb2
 
As others have said, replacing the downpipes will help.

A full system will help slightly more, and a full system combined with a PCIII sorts it completely.
 
My 58 plate gsa had the same flat areas it had 8000 miles on it, its the fueling map .......very lean , decat down pipes help like others have said , just so happens i have some keihan headers for sale :thumb2

Forgive me, but I'm not familiar with the description "58 plate" - what does it refer to?

That will be our UK registration plate year prefix. ‘58 plate’ means the bike was registered sold as new in the year 2008. So, it’s a 2008 GS.:rob

My other half bought me the BMW Akrapovic can for my birthday. :thumb2

I have found it smooths out the fuelling and it revs a bit better too.

Hopefully, she has taken my hints about decat headers for Xmas....
 
does the Akra can make it sound a bit better than the wet fart sound that comes supplied as standard? Can you just sling it on yourself or does it need re-mapping/re-jetting or whatever black magic the garage does?

In my opinion, i wouldn’t bother with a Can. In my experience having owned 5 GS’s over the years. I have found that the best combination that makes the GS perform noticeably better (and a bit louder), is by combining CAT replacing ‘Y’ headers, e.g. Remus or keihan, with the standard Can.

Its a simple job to do yourself and theres no need to mess about with all that fuel re-mapping voodoo stuff.:thumb
