I've searched the web & this site but can't find the specifications which would tell me what the main differences are between the 2009 model and other versions of the XCountry.
In fact, I found one site which claimed they were exactly the same, which I know to be untrue because I can't touch the floor on a standard model but could on the Yellow version.
Any links to discussion threads or web sites appreciated :thumb2

Try using 'Loncin' in your search.....

Simple things are; The 2009 is yellow, it has a steel subframe, and it has welded on rear footrests rather than bolt on. These are the 3 obvious differences, the first one standing out, obviously.

Looking to buy one Elle?

As said those are 3 differences, but the main one is that the 09 model has a lower seat height. More suitable for women.

Cheers Dave.

Thanks :)
Still haven't found any specifications for both types. Loncin only tells me where they were built.

Does that mean I could just buy the B&W model then get the seat lowered? I thought the differences were much more substantial.

I continuously search for a decent mid-range dual purpose bike. My 250 trail bikes don't cut it for long distance road riding in order to get to the trails or to carry my camping gear.
After riding with coyotedave (:beerjug:) to and around Scotland, I know the xc would be perfect.

Have you considered a version of the Bob Yak trailer for luggage carrying. Www.Bobgear.com
It's reliable behind a pedal bike so a larger version should be great behind a motorbike.

the old ones have the Rotax engine, this is the main difference.
you are right about the lower yellow machine.
this is the black, haven't the Loncin details
spring-strut length
for standard seat height
337+1.5 -1.5 mm
for low seat height
328.5+1.5 -1.5 mm
the yellow hasn't the issue with the gears,
the housing cover has ab bushing instead of the old type.

You can download the owners manuals for both here: http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/uk/en/index.html, on the service and maintenance pages, though I think most of the differences have been posted already. The suspension may be different.
The suspension, both front and rear is different.

To convert one to the other its a matter of swapping the front forks, rear sachs shock and the side stand. Both came with the same seat. The low seat that is available, fits both models.

Apart from the subframe, the rest is sll the same, and interchangable.

I kept the forks, shock and stand off my 09 model when i started customising it and later fitted them to an 07 black model for my wife.

Hi there Elle .... girlfriend Sue (Gracie on here) has the yellow 2009 model, I have the 2007 black version, a little taller. If you want to have a look at them 'back to back' then we can fix (Sue at Royston near Barnsley)

2007 version built at the Italian Aprilia factory, later versions 'assembled' in China. Build quality might not be as good as the earlier versions, but then of course much depends on how they're looked after.

As mentioned, 2007 slightly taller, alloy rear subframe, with bolt on alloy pillion foot pegs, later steel rear subframe with welded on pillion foot pegs.

My 2007 is a much better bike than Sue's 2008 model :D

But she will tell you different

As said, if you want to see them both side by side we can arrange :thumby:

:beerjug:

Edit ... Sue 5' 2" (ish) ;)

Thank you, I had thought this, but that's just the type of confirmation I needed :thumb2

Thanks Micky :)
I'm now living in NZ & whilst I'm visiting the UK soon, I probably won't have time to visit - my trip is to pack up my house, sell my trail bikes and put the house on the market :bounce1
I remember your bikes when we went to Scotland. I have sat on a 2009 model so know that fits & I've sat on JB's xcountry and know it is far too tall.
Thank you for the information.

There are 2 x 2007 models for sale in NZ & I was wondering if I could just modify those to fit me as waiting for a 2009 model to appear is pointless.
From the information provided, it sounds plausible :)
