got my deposit down on the s1000rr :) and i think i will have a new gsa too c wot new year brings:augie

I saw an S1000RR at Rainbow last week.

Not the bike for me as I could not bend into it, but what a beautiful machine. If they go half as well as they look they should fly out of the showroom especially as they are cheaper than list price of the new 2010 R1!

I wonder how much you are paying for this 1000RR in the UK? As there is a 100 hp limit in France there is little point in any of these superbikes, even a Fireblade will hardly see off my 1200GS in a straight line.

So they do actually limit all bikes down to 100 horses? It would indeed seem pointless to strut your stuff on a big badged bike that is actually a tiddler underneath. Wow.

Yes, it is a fact that there is a 100hp limit - although there seems to be a margin of about +10%. I have been told that it is possible to import a bike from the UK that is over this limit - but like most administrative problems in France, it is likely to vary from department to department. Anyway, why bother? There is an ever increasing use of radar, both fixed and 'roving' and official warnings that Police and Gendarmes are being INSTRUCTED to tighten up generally.
There aren't many bikes nowadays that cannot reach a comfortable 130 kph (80 mph) - and be thankful that you still can get from A to B on almost all of them at an average of 120 (70) over long distances. And once you arrive at your destination, there are plenty of fantastic roads here that can be enjoyed and can be demanding even at the legal limit.
 
I remember an interview with Mike Hailwood where he reckoned 85hp was enough for anyone. Thats why Ducati amde the Hilwood tribute bike with 85hp.

A large majority of sportbikes over here are "debride" and output their full power.

Many dealers and bike shops will unofficially do this for you, I have owned 3, including a tuned 193 bhp Hayabusa, still got the dyno plot, but couldn't avoid the back tyres! :eek:


As there is no MOT for bikes, it is very hard to police.

My Fireblade eats GS's for breakfast :D:D

Yes, I know there are plenty who have had their bikes 'debridé' - and have thus lost their insurance cover - but why worry because with luck they won't have an accident and no one will know; I have also heard of cars and bikes being confiscated on the spot for excessive speed - rather embarrassing if yours no longer conforms; yes, I am an old 'stick in the mud' and have to be satisfied by a maximum speed of around 130 mph (which I dare not do for fear of losing my licence) and 0 -60 in 3.5 seconds. Its a hard life!

Already had an accident on "debride" bike, insurance paid up, no problem.

I don't know anyone that rides a restricted bike, I'm sure someone does, but I've never heard of one being checked, maybe the Gendarmes are going to get portable rolling roads?? :hide
