2010-2012 GS issues

I'm seriously thinking of chopping my Multistroodle in for a GS
Final drive issue was the last straw on my 2008 GS which sent me the Ducati way.

What's wrong with the 2010 model that I should look out for?
I'm defo not street testing a new model again so the 2013 GS isn't an option

My 2010 R1200GS has been excellent so far (17000mls) , no issues at all (hope this is'nt tempting fate). Supposedly all probems sorted..... last in the line of the Oil / Air cooled 1200s.......

I don't want to burst anybodies bubble but the FD on the 2010 still screw up, even the later ones with the breather. Infact there are a few in the states have broken because of the breather.

Faultless and exactly what a GS should be, rides great and sounds great..............!

Mines a 2011, best one so far, certainly will not be in the rush for a WC version

No problems with any of mine. Saying that though, my 2012 is getting a new centre stand fitted this week, under warranty, as the paint is a little too thin on some.

Out of interest, why you getting rid of the mutley?

I think you will find that the paint is the same on all of them, it gets a battering down there, will get mine powdercoated when it gets too bad.

June 2011 GSA, 17 1/2 K, couple of minor issues sorted by the dealer straight away. (1) base gasket leaked oil on RH barrel (dealer said never heard of that before - renewed the gasket sealant). (2) leading edge of rocker covers paint flaking (new ones fitted).
I now service it myself which is really easy.
So very very pleased SO FAR!

The stand on my 2010 1200 was fine, and it had done twice the miles of this one. If it was out of warranty, I'd either powder coat it, or paint it myself, but so long as its covered, they can keep changing it.

Mines a 61 plate GSA. The only problem I've had is that it is much more expensive to run than previous bikes.

This is caused by the fact that it is so good that I can't stop riding it and have to keep filling it up with petrol!

Normally manage 6 to 7000 miles a year. GSA is on 12000 and it's not a year old yet.

No other problems to report. Even the oil consumption is calming down.

The best by far my 2010 GSA...coming up for 21,000 in just over 2 years.

Plain Jane, no ABS, no ESA, no probs...now't.. just heated grips and chrome exhaust fitted

No technical problems - 2011 model done 6k. However......sh1t paint and more rust than previous 08 bike at same mileage

I think the fuel gauge has replaced the FD as most common fault which sounds a lot cheaper.

Still my 2008 scared me enough to go for a Tenere rather than take the BMW QC Lottery - although I prefered the Twin Cam GS over all the other bikes I tried.

I still have nagging doubts as a few FD's have been reported as going very early, fuel strips go all the time and it seems at high mileages expensive gearbox failures are common on earlier models and I don't think the gearbox design has changed a lot.

I am sure they are better, but IMO you can't beat the Jap stuff for quality and reliability, and when they do go wrong the parts / labour tend to be a lot cheaper.

The thing that I think BMW generally do better is know their bikes, if only the bikes were a bit more reliable to begin with I would happily pay the premium for the servicing.

My 2011 gsa had a replacement mirror, other than that an absolute pleasure i did 6k miles in 9 months and rode it daily from feb to july this year with no corrossion or reliability issues.

The heated grips were a bit feeble but came back as to spec when checked.

Good bike but too big/heavy for my own needs so gone the other way to you and now have a multistrada which is so far also 100 percent reliable!
