2010-2012 GS issues

Good luck with that one. I've done it twice now, once for BMW in 2008 and again for Ducati in 2010. I would give it a year and let someone else find the bugs. :rob :rob

Normally, I would agree. But as the new GS is 5 years in development, and so much more is at stake this time round with more "competition" out there, they have to get it right. And they will.:rob

The bike will come with a warranty; I only ride for fun when I'm not working, and don't commute or use the bike for work, so I'm happy to take a gamble.:thumb

I will wait for the adventure! I'm loving my GS triple black boxer at the moment and it's farkled up!

2010 - 14,000 miles no problems except a bolt broke on the centre stand - fixed free of charge out of warranty by SBW

great, great bike.

mines a 2010 GSA model , which i part ex'ed against a 2010 mutley s model. I do miss the brute power of the mutley thou .... but i know i made the best choice as the duke let me down badly three times in the time i owned it. I love my GSA , never tyre of riding her ... bit like the wife.... :D , the problems ihave had on the GSA are :

fuel sender changeout under warranty
paint on rear frme keeps wearing out with my boot. dealer has reapiraed it once , but i am going to get it powder coated to sort it.
Exhaust valve has seized and had to be replaced under warranty.

still very happy and mine has done 23K miles to boot.

regards

Tony

I'd get your wife the Doc quick......

33 months, 27,000 miles 2010GS and no issues at all - ran it in by the book and serviced it on time.

2010 twin cam, front ESA shock leaking at 6k replaced under warranty, just had rear one go on my K1600 aswell. Very expensive item if they go out of warrenty period. Not sure I'd specify ESA again.

I managed to find a new one in the end and got good p/x on the multistroodle.
Now where's that HID bracket and other shiny stuff I never got round to selling?

I have a 2010, my third GS and they have all been fine . Done about 50k miles in all so a reasonable test . Dont fancy a WC but my dealer couldn't get me a new one in the autumn unless I had an adventure which I don't fancy so I might look for a very low mileage 2012 GS without the fancy suspension as a keeper ,but mine has only done 13K miles and there is nothing wrong so maybe I should just keep that one. Open to suggestions and maybe even offers.

I'd offer you mine, but it has ESA:blast

I predict that the 1200WC will be a little too "Japanese" and not the runaway success the hexhead ha been?
Then we can post such crap as "Get the only proper GS - A twin-cam" in the WC section! :thumb

My Twin Cam is going nowhere in 2013, it's a cracker & I love it!

Nothing to worry about.

Good to read this post as I've just taken delivery of a mint 2010 with only 2000 miles on the clock.

Only worry is getting it dirty.

:comfort:comfort

June 2011 GSA, 17 1/2 K, couple of minor issues sorted by the dealer straight away. (1) base gasket leaked oil on RH barrel (dealer said never heard of that before - renewed the gasket sealant). (2) leading edge of rocker covers paint flaking (new ones fitted).
I now service it myself which is really easy.
So very very pleased SO FAR!

Just noted that leading edge of my rocker covers are flaking, how old yours when replaced?

2010 GSA, 35,000miles problems so far.

Aux light switch, left heated grip, fuel strip, exhaust valve, rear drive seal x2 and paint flaking on both wheels, all replaced under warranty.

Rear disc needed replaced earlier this year and a front caliber needed split as one piston jammed solid.

Just been told today that my clutch has no friction material left on it, which I'm not too happy about but awaiting reply from BMW about covering all or some of the cost as a good will gesture.

Also noticed the paint on lower right fork leg is flaking so will get that seen to also on warranty.

Glad I renewed warranty and will again next year.

P.S. Don't let the above put you off its the best bike I've owned in the last 30 years. But I will be seriously considering the new wc when they bring out an adventure model, by then any teething problems will be sorted and of course its got a wet clutch.

bought my GS1200 new in june 2012. Have done 6300 miles, just booking in for service. What sort of cost should I expect ?
Had no issues whatsoever, a great bike, picked it cos th ergos suit me perfectly . So agile a bike, lovely handling especially in tight bends.

Interesting about failed front damper , as my bike has esa...and I reckon my damping has lost some of its pliability ...so want that looked at ...front end only seems affected, feels just less supple over bumps...or am I just getting used to the bike ??

2010 model with 15 k on the clocks. Fuel sensor x2 ( seems a common one), butterfly valve and one ESA shock at 12,000 as its was "misting". Excellent bike in my view despite the above - all fixed PDQ
