When I ride the bike with my instep on the peg I can't lift the front of my foot far enough to get it on top of the gear selector to change down. I end up having to take my foot off the peg to make the change.

I tried adjusting the gear selector on the spined shaft to make it lower which works well for the gear change but the arm catches on the springs for the side stand when it retracts so I moved it back to the default position.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong with my riding position (not had this before) or if there is something else I can do.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Larne, you don't have to move the gear lever on the splines, the gear knob covered with rubber is on an eccentric so you just loosen the fastener and move the knob to the desired position. :)

Best regards Stretch :D

Hmmm...can you expand on that a bit? Took a look and I can't see any adjustment for the rubber part. As far as I can see the lever and the stud over which the rubber goes is a single part.

Hi Larne, Hope all is well with the down changes!!

I'm not sure which years / models have this or haven't, but if you look at the 'shaft' of your gear lever it may well have a small grub screw / allen bolt that allows you to extend or shorten it on a sort of sliding telescope affair.

For what its worth, I ride a road bike on the balls of my feet, move my foot to change, then back on to my balls again .

Hi Larne

Just a thought. What boots do you wear. It wont help if you are wearing stiff motoX type boots.
So if adjustment mentioned above fails.
Maybe try some more flexible boots.

Hi Guys, mine has the adjustment as described above, however mine is a 2010 GSA, I don't know if the GS has the same facility.

Stretch :)

...... I think you may be right Stretch .. maybe just the GSA's have it .. :thumb

Thanks for the additional feedback chaps. I'll take another look tomorrow but I'm fairly sure the whole thing is a single piece with no adjustment.

Depending on where I am riding I am either wearing a pair of gortex motorcycle boots or a pair of regular leather boots so the issue isn't down to the boots. I'm a little of 6 foot tall and even with the seat high up I guess my legs are still fairly far forward, meaning that my foot angles down a fair bit (I have already had the experience of my foot hitting the ground while cornering).

I guess it figures that this is something you might find on the GSA and while I'm disappointed not to find it on the GS I'm not too surprised. I'll just have to see what else I can come up with.

It's a shame about the side stand spring really. Moving the gear level around one notch on the sprocket was fine (a bit low for the upshift but manageable) but I can't have it fouling the stand.

Thanks again for all the advice.

You could of course purchase and fit the GSA gear lever to your bike.
It would seem to be a streight swop.;)

Not a bad idea at all. Anyone know (or can check) what the part number is? Looked it up on RealOEM.com but it shows the same part (unfortunately the non-adjustable one) for both the GS and GSA.
