Couple of quick questions

Does mine have a aux socket (30th year model + the packs) cant find one anywhere.

Where's the best place for a slim ballest for the HID kit

Is ACF spray worth the while to protect my baby, intend keeping this a long time.

Can i fit a alarm module later if i find one second hand, mine has tyre pressure monitor. (forgot to option it )

Look in owner's handbook.

The standard one is on the nearside, on the frame, under and slightly to the rear of the seat. The nearside is the side nearest the kerb in the UK, with the bike pointing forward in the direction of travel, on the correct (left) side of the road.

The optional extra one, is on the near side, on the beak fairing.

Where's the best place buy one from or the best place fix it to the vehicle?

The tyre pressure monitor is not linked to the alarm in anyway. It is irrelevant.

Ask your new found best friend, the dealer who sold you the bike, if they can retro fit an alarm. I guess no.... and (if yes) it will be costly.

You can of course fit a third party alarm any old time you like.

Yes you can retro fit the BMW alarm and its around £250. It has to be a dealer fit though as the ECU needs to be programmed to tell it that the alarm is there. Might also be possible to do a second hand one but you will still need the dealer to program things. For that kind of money you could get a better alarm as the factory one isn't recognised in anyway by insurance companies. On the plus side though it is integrated into the bike itself so no messing with splicing wires and stuff that could in theory trash your electrics warranty.

I had a factory alarm on my '05 and hardly used it. GS batteries are rather limited and the alarm can drain it in a much shorter time than something similar on your car. Unless you have a specific reason to need one - and you may - I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the rest of the answers, sounds like the alarms not worth it.

Now to try putting more than 250 miles in 3 weeks of owning it on it, pesky wet weather, lookin like Stars at Darley rain or shine

I had my current bike done recently, I wish I had known about this when i bought it new. It brought the bike up very clean and shiny (worth doing before selling!) and also 6 months and a 3,000 mile Alps tour later it still looks good in the hard to reach places.

If I buy a GS the first stop will be with All Year Biker

The alarm does shut down but not after a week unless you have a poor battery, it only stops flashing the red LED but the alarm is still on. It monitors the battery and shuts off when the battery goes down to a certain level same as any good alarm would do. Mine was still on after a 3 week lay up when all the snow was on the go and the bike still started as it should.

I have had the standard DWA factory alarm on both my 1200's as that is how they came when I bought them.

If it were down to me personally I would rather invest in a decent ground anchor and sold-secure approved chain and lock than spend money on a pointless noise maker (the bike already has an immobiliser as standard.) £250 should easily buy you the best.

Who bothers to intervene when a gang of burly blokes with bad attitudes are shoving your bike into the back of a transit van with the alarm blaring wildly??

That it may be, but the OP asked us if it was possible to retro-ft an alarm....and then went on to tell us that he had tyre pressure monitors. So, the pressure monitors stand independently from the alarm; just as on bikes with an alarm (but without tyre monitors) the alarm stands independently. Unless, of course, when an alarm is fitted in conjunction with tyre pressure monitors, a drop in tyre pressure triggers the alarm's activation.... Does it?
