Blue smoke

noticed blue smoke on start up last couple of times after a couple of days idle in garage.

When left garaged it is always on centre stand, I wheel it out of garage and put on side stand then start it. The smoke is just faint blue and clears after two or three blips of the throttle, I have informed chester and they are going to check it out when they replace the fuel stick.

Will let you guys know the outcome.

Bike won't start this morning. Nothing. not even a dashboard light. EWS I'm guessing (?) so BM recovery have been called.

I'm not impressed!! I've had a new front shock (Crazy diamond - mine failed in it's first two weeks whilst on a trip with the boys in Scotland - oil every where, replaced under warranty ...), new rear tyre valve, a bill for £400 for said new valve and two new tyres (!!!!!!!), and now this.

Great bike, but boy is this turning into a love hate relationship :(

Hey Giles, the misting on the front shock reservoir seems to have cleared up, hopefully all's well, just the fuel gauge and smoke on start up to worry about!!

Lads...is the cutting out a sign for the cam sensor?

What actually is the mechanics to this and how is the new/replacement cam sensor different or improved in performance and spec/

I picked up my 2010 1200gsa (1800 miles) yesterday after being in to have new fuel sender fitted. Was informed they fitted a new cam sensor due to the fact that the original one flexes? haven't had mine cut out at all before or after the replacement was fitted.

Well 7800 miles and all was well but the flapper controller has gone into over drive and is constantly ticking !!
It played up just before 6000 mile service and was told that the fault was found on the computer and re-set , guess they were just full of shit as its got worse , guess it’s a trip to the French dealer to do it all in pigeon French

2010 GSA with 5500 miles. Bike hiccups now and then when blipping throttle. Burned 1 litre of oil since 600ml service. First GS I own so have no previous experience in oil cons. but seems a lot when doing autoroutes at 85mph to Spain.

Fuel gauge not working - believed to be fuel sensor. Will be taking it in to my local BMW dealer to sort under warranty.
 
4500 miles and nothing so far, but ............in 3900 miles since first service the oil was down by 2mm in the window, about 0.05 ltr!

Is this normal, do they all use this much oil? :augie

It has been run in proper...thrashed.....AND I had to put air in the front tyre, .2 bar at 4000 miles

Only prob was getting 40mpg after filling up at Sainsburys Ashford before the Tunnel the other week....my buddy got the same....shite fuel...as soon as we filled up in France mpg went back to normal...50 + mpg

Sorry about the "shite" moderators, but I feel it was fully justified in this case to vent my feelings, especially as I wrote to Sainsburys who dismissed it, the bar stewards...

yes, I had 2008 model (around 4000k on the clock)and while going down through France I have noticed that Im almost out of oil - I left UK with bike after servicing, and by Bordeaux I was warned by oil indiator .. I could not see any oil through the window. However I have toped up and no issuess then.
I was going quite quick on the motorway so I wonder if in higher speeds the oil just gets eaten off..
 
Sump Guard.

Anybody had this one. Bolt that secures sump/bash plate fell out . Bike only done 360 miles. Managed to secure it wi cable ties(lucky to have some as theres nowt in the extensive BMW Tool kit!!). Checked all other accesable fastners and all seem ok.
 
9600 miles
1 spot lamp switch
2 headlamp bulbs
1 fuel sender at 6000 service, which went tits up within 20 miles and fuel warning light on for 3500 mile Alps tour, now booked back in for another in 3 weeks!
 
14,000 miles

Fog spot switch keeps switching off. (Switch isn't up to the vibration)

Headlamp bulb went on two days ago.

Balderstons are servicing the bike, and good they are too!

I do alot of motorway miles, I am about 14000miles on the clock now and picked up the bike in March (2010 version). I have gone through litres of oil... at one point I had to conciously check it as I was doing about 1000miles then having to refil... this has slowed down alot after my 12k service. Oh, if the oil is too low it hates starting... so I keep a litre at my home and works digs just in case...
 
10,000 miles spent touring Denmark, Norway, Spain and France.
Headlamp bulb blew in Norway.
No other issues.:D

NO,none of those,av only done 1000m so far so early days yet.
Uses no oil tho as yet...:roll
 
Final drive leak after 2465miles in 6 days, some at Autobahn speeds! (now @ 7000 miles). But I thought this what the bikes are meant for?
