Hi
OK been out riding my 9 month old GS R1200 ADV today just clocked up 9,250 miles, over the last 4 or 5 rides I have felt the bike become very heavy and slab sided, checked suspension and IMO it was not good? So today after a ride I rode it down toRainbow at Rotherham, where I bought it New last September.

After their service chaps looked at it and tested it the ESA rear shock was said to be Knackered! Good job I was not booked out on a ride/trip tomorrow.....
Now awaiting replacement Shocker.

Just wondered if it's a known issue or is this rare or what? Can't say I'm that impressed, I know I am a fat Tosser but bloody hell new rear shock in 9K miles will it want another in the next 9k miles ? I wonder?

I had the same thing on my 08 GSA at about 4,000 miles. Took NOG weeks to get a replacement but it was at a time when the ESA was new on the GS.

Was it OK after replacement? did it go on to do milages?

Hope it does not take as long to sort your shocker as it has taken to get a response from BMW re my brake problem (3 weeks up to now and booked in a week on Tuesday for more investigation work) :blast :blast

I've got a 58 adv, the esa went last May after 12K , had to wait a week to get clearance from germany for a replacement, took 10 days in all before the bike was ready. Great service from Caterham in getting the work done, very efficent.

Yes well I am hoping Rainbow get mine sorted real fast is it a common thing with the ESA ? I had it on my 2009 GSA but that was fine sold it at 18k though,

What settings did you normally run it on ?

I run Normal with two riders helmets for most use, then on areal bumby road i would use comfort mode, if i wanted a real stiffer ride , i would use sports mode.

i would change the on the fly setting several times during the daily rides

Why?

19000 miles on my 09 GSA, and no problems so far with the ESA.:thumb2

However, my mate had his rear shock replaced on his 2010 GSA at just 1800 miles:eek:

It seams you either get a good un, or a bad un..

ESA shock

Mine let go at about 12000 miles and 18 months on an '09 Gs SE. Replaced under warranty. Thought mine was a one off.....obviously not.
I generally run my ESA on solo sport setting

Waited patiently today to see if Rainbow would ring me re my warranty rear ESA shock? as they are CLOSED Mondays? But guess what? No call.So I rang them at 4.00pm was given no info just got to wait?

It really would have been nice if the dealer rang the customer
(as i think it should be)

So cant ride bike again tomorrow :(

Simply that I thought that running it as one rider only might have been the problem - as you say, you are a big fella (or little Ollie at Rainbow has shrunk!). But 2 helmets should be able to cope so I think you have a legitimate concern.

Yes big fella true but these tractors are supposed to be able to handle 75stone! Even that gives me a bit of scope :)

Hi
Rear shock failed on my 2010 GS after 3000 miles last year. Replaced by Cannons very promptly, who said at the time that BMW were switching manufactures due to quality problems. Hope i'v got a good one now !

My 2008 GSA rear ESA shock is being changed tomorrow at CW in Dorchester. It managed 14k miles, very glad I had extended warranty and CW dealt with it promptly.
Dont think I need to go on that diet yet having read the posts prior:clap

So what is the going rate for a set of GSA shocks.

As I changed mine to Wilbers I have a set in my garage (done 600 miles).

Well Done Rainbow! My GSA was fitted with a FOC replacement Rear ESA today whilst I waited (scoffed a few buiscuts) cup of coffee and it was all done, Just can't tell you how much better the bike is!

Did I think my legs had grown!:blast coz i could touch the floor, well its back to Daddy Long legs now and tip toes:thumb But what a difference if your rear shock don't work! Its like a new bike again.................
It always puts a smile on my face its a happy bike:thumb:thumb
