2010 GS 'zorst valve thingy Q

I have a 2010 GS on loan for a week. I thought these things had a magic exhaust flap thingy and corresponding magic button but am fekked if I can find it.

Just interested. Its rather loud compared to my 09 which has Remus headers and Akro can (with baffles in).

(my 09 GSA is in for a gearbox re-build to suspected fekked input shaft bearing)

It's not a button. The flap opens and closes at certain revs. Makes feck all difference as far as I can tell :thumb

Well thats bollox then.

I wonder how much extra weight that adds (and cost and probability of failure).

the Valve is at the joint where the cat meets the muffler 2 cables going to it. you cant turn it on or off,it seems to make my 2010GSA breath better and certainly makes it smoother.There is no magic button :D
 
I believe - and don't quote me on this - that it's emissions related :nenau

Sorry to quote you, but the idea behind it is to give you more in the low and mid range (flap shut) and then it opens to allow a better flow at high revs. I can't imagine BMW wasting R&D on an item that doesn't work and as it's very similar to Yamaha's EXUP valve (used for decades) there must be some benefit behind the thing.

I thought we read this thing closes in at the revs at which the drive-by noise test is done, and is only to allow a fruitier noise at low revs while still passing the noise test?

The magic button, comes in the form of the black tubular device on the right handside of the handle bar. Twisting it in a clockwise direction makes more noise and more speed...:D
