2010 GSA Canbus socket locations ?

Hi all

first of all apologies if this is already answered elsewhere, i searched and couldnt find the answer.

I have bought a canbus plug from BMW (see pic) and have soldered my tomtom power cable to it (as instructed in various places)

I cant find the socket to plug it into though.

I had the beak off, and the tank cap (to let me take pretty much all the entire front fairing off), etc today trying to find it - spent a good hour or so poking around and looking at every nook and cranny trying to find where to plug it in all to no avail.

the pics i can find dont seem to bear any resemblance to what the inside of my bike looks like.

I appreciate Im probably being an idiot and as soon as someone points out where it is, im going to be slapping my own face for being so stupid..

Can someone please help ?

Hi mate,
I had the same problem, I had an 06 GS and wired the sat nav up to the canbus socket that was by the steering head in the loom, so when I bought a 2010 GSA I went to wire up my zumo and could not find the canbus plug no matter how hard I tried to find it.
So in desperation I rang a mate who has an 09 GSA, he told me that they move the bloody plug, it's now under the oil radiator, if you lie on the floor and look up it's easy to find taped up underneath the middle of the oil rad, heres a link to a site that shows it

To be honest when I found it I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it but there you go easy when you know how or where.

Yep,
dead centre below the oil cooler, could easily be seen on my 2010 gsa, they must have tucked yours up out of the way

Im glad Im not the only one to have this problem.

The thing that makes it worse is that I got a guy at the BMW dealership (Vines, Guildford, UK) to describe/point out where I could find the socket and he pointed at a totally different location.. GRRRR..http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/censor.gif

What I need is a mechanical guru near to where I live that I can call upon for actual expert advice when I need it.

Maybe this forum is it ? Im certainly impressed so far

I'm no expert but have done most mods havong owned an 08GS, 09GSA and now a 10GSA, always happy to help and im in Twickenham, not today tho, just leaving now for the Ardennes

I was out there a couple of weeks ago, (basically collected my new GSA and went to the ferry) - on the way back we had the opportunity to be guided around flanders field by a local on a motorbike, radio comms, etc.

No you dont need to remove the beak, it can be seen and accesed from by the clocks

took one look up the front of the beak and facepalmed.

how did i not spot it before ?

i reckon the chap at the bmw dealership that told me it was elsewhere is to blame..
