Lost momentum on rough (but soft) track. Bike on side for few minutes. Laid down slowly on right so no damage at all as bike was stopped.

Bike will not start. Mechanic friend says cant hear fuel pump.

Any ideas beffore I call BMW assist?
Fuel pump controller uppermost in mind butseems bit of coincidence

Side stand cut out switch :nenau

Corrected my description, laid down on right not left so no damage possible to side stand switch. Also failed to mention bike started ok when righted but only ran for few secs before cutting out. Cant hear pump priming when switching on

Lets assume that the starter motor spins the engine, then it probably is the fpc. If the engine doesn't spin then suspect sidestand switch or gear position sensor. I had a similar experience after dropping my bike on an offroad track. I fitted a spare fpc and it started.

Check that the electrical connections to the fpc are fully pushed in.

Thanks GGSer, Amazing how late at night, tired after trying to get bike to start and then blagging lift home after midnight one does not necessarily have clarity of thought.

The engine started and ran for a few seconds then stopped. Probably using up fuel engine side of pump. You are correct to assume starter motor spins engine. We have checked connections to fpc and they are fully pushed home.

I dont carry spare although I do carry a by pass lead. Bike is still under warranty and BMW assist are picking it up monday morning and taking it to BMW dealership in Xania about 40k from where we are so not touching bike. I don't want to give BMW reason to invalidate warranty.

Why what happened to you and I should break fpc mystifies me. Did you ever find out what was wrong with fpc you replaced?

There are pages and pages and pages of FPC stuff on this site.Nobody knows for sure why they fail. One theory was overheating and early bikes had a black protective cover over the FPC. That was removed to allow better cooling and allow rain to pi$$ all over it and still they failed, so corrosion was then blamed.Recalled FPC's got a black enamelled coating and still............
The Saga Continues
Do yourself a favour and carry a bypass lead or a spare and forget about it and enjoy the bike:D
