I’ve managed to aquire a set of these aux lights including the harness.

Don’t suppose I could ask someone with them to take a look and see where they plug into on the harness this looks to be the connection for them.

Is there an aux pick up blanked off similar to the gps connection somewhere??

This is link to the ones I have https://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/show...25-BMW-R_1200_GS_10_0450,0460_&diagId=77_0222

Thanks
Mark

The connector to plug into is on the ZFE module bracket, you'll need to remove the fuel tank to get to this. A relay also needs installed in the spare socket under the BMS (engine) ECU.
See your PMs.

Busy at it today, thanks to Nigel for the information on where the connections were.

Missing a relay and then I’m good. Ordered up so will get it next week.

As always, great help from forum users greatly appreciated.

Would anyone know what the three wires on the switch represent?

I was hoping to simply see two wires but there are three. Is it a positive and negative and switch?

Cables in the loom to the switch are: Grey/white - feed from ZFE (active with dip beam on), Black - switched feed to relay. Purple - earth. Note the cable colours in the loom to the switch do not match the colours in the main loom.
The earth is for the tell-tale lamp in the switch.

Many thanks, ah so the light have the ability to switch with when the headlights are dip beam on. So the switch i have then i will need to connect black up to switch and then other side of switch back to grey/white on the loom. The ground i can pickup somewhere under the tank. Hopefully i can source a proper switch, the ones so far i have seen are over £100 for the switch. Hopefully something pops up on ebay over the winter.

Thanks for all the help greatly appreciated..

If you connect the 4-way connector in your first pic then the earth is there for you. Hope the diagram helps, note the change in wire colours from the switch connector.

Thanks, yes it’s all connected up with the four way so can grab it there.

Picture tells a thousand words, so thanks for that.

I’ve managed to loose the bloody proper switch, so now I’m going to wire in a second one I bought same as this https://www.dlsmotorcycleparts.shop...RarWZL66VqvBHvYOuUW4qeErJa8iW3sRoCuSIQAvD_BwE

So I need to this new switch for live and Gnd then take one of the high beam lights to switch the relay of the aux lights 86 on relay. Would this work?

Thoughts are that the black wire in pic is switched live to energise relay and purple is the Gnd.

Any thoughts?

So for anyone in future this works, you take the white ZFE live via your switch to the black on the switch wiring and this energies the relay from your switch. The purple is just a gnd and part of the harness. I buzzed this out. So all working happy days, now just need to find the bloody switch i bought.

Is the switch in the safe place with the 10mm socket?

note the loom between the early ones and the TC models is different - the early loom has a relay - for 2010 they changed things and there no relay on the aux loom

you can turn on (code) bulb failure for the aux lights if you want

That may be the case for the water-cooled models but is certainly NOT the case for the TC models.

My 2011 has a relay, I had to buy one to get it working. My slot next the starter relay was empty so I Installed one of these: https://www.motorworks.co.uk/mini-relay-ela93412-1.html

strange - but you may have a point - I bought a secondhand loom (I thought it was a K25 one), that had no relay just ZFE power, a 2 x fuse holder, and the two lamp connectors - when I put it on the bike they were perm on regardless of switch position - looked and found the early ones get a relay - bought one and chopped up the loom - I don't know what I'm doing and got them to work on the switch but the green LED was either perm lit or never lit (or such) my brother looked at the wiring diagram I was creating on the fly and told me to make a change - now it works exactly as the book says

the loom are all different (and the last LC one is the only one without a relay....)

re the bulb failure - I had a document somewhere that said they added it and it was optional to code. They will work either way

dealer tool / software updates updates back then CD11.2 Date: May 2008 where updated to code the retrofit
retrofit options have been implemented for the R 1200 GS (type code numbers 0303, 0313) & R 1200 GS Adventure (type code numbers 0380, 0390):
-Auxiliary headlights (option code 0562)

Agreed the looms are different, in both the 0380 and 0470 there is a relay but on the 0470 the wiring and socket are incorporated into the main loom.
The BMW workshop instructions for performing "coding" after fitting an accessory does not necessarily mean additional functionality is enabled, it can just be setting a flag in the configuration to indicate that an accessory has been fitted. In the case of the aux. headlights on the GSA (K25/0470, and I suspect the 0380) there is no way to achieve bulb failure detection as the supply for the lamps comes direct from the battery via the relay and fuses.
