have been informed that my new GS along with others sold in the last couple of months has to go back and get a modification to correct a problem with loss of power on down changes
Have been told this takes one hour

any members have any info

Interesting....

I took delivery of a new R1200GS last week and it stalled on the way home when I down shifted as a car turned left. I only realised when I let the clutch back out the rear wheel locked before the engine basically bump started. I thought it was something daft I'd done and put it out of my mind.

However tonight whilst trying to put a few more miles on it (up to a grand total of 120!) it cut out on down shifting about 5 times to the point where it was getting a bit dangerous to ride. I'm planning on taking it back to the dealer first thing tomorrow and leaving it with them but at least it looks like there's a genuine reason with a fix.

The only other thing I've noticed is that the bike seems sluggish and 'lumpy' compared to the demo bike I tried but they can give it a proper going over. It might just be because it's new (never had a new bike before) or it might be my paranoia! :)

there is about 5 different posts in here regarding this recall. maybe search 2010 recall and you will see them all and what the work is about.

Cheers very muchly for that :thumb2 The problems experienced by davnjud are exactly like mine - cutting out, rough running , down on power etc.

Thankfully it looks like a known issue now so back to CW's in Dorch tomorrow.

It takes a bit of the shine off having a nice new toy but oddly there's some comfort in knowing that others have had the same issue. :)

Took it in today and it now seems sorted :) I need to put a few more miles on it to be sure but on the way home it seemed like a new bike. Oh wait, it is a new bike! :D Ok a different new bike that works. :thumb2

The dealer said there were two parts to the mod - a retarding of the ignition by 4 degrees and the new cam sensor/alignment. They were under the impression it was to sort out poor idling and performance at low revs and not the cutting out but the symptoms I had were exactly the same as the others affected.

Right, where's my Magners!
