2012 gsa oil consumption,

2011 Twin Cam. Just back from 2800 mile trip to Croatia, 2 up & fully loaded. 700mm oil used. (Current total mileage 6000). Cheers, Michael.

In your case it's already done, but how an engine is "run-in" will have an effect on both oil consumption and maximum power. I've just built a high performance car engine and used Millers competition Running-In Oil, and took advice from this site - Break In Secrets regarding how to go about the initial breaking/bedding in of everything. As already said, oil consumption is about the rings bedding in, or not, and the initial running-in process will have a big weighting on this .... probably why in a lot of cases oil consumption goes down as big miles go on. Well worth a read.

Er .... was I allowed to mention oil :blast

Stu.

Maybe its a German engine thing. My Audi TDI slurped oil for the first 1000 miles (they even provide a top up bottle) then it used no more until its 1st service at 21,000. When new it would stall at traffic lights or spin the wheels. It improved by 1000 miles. 5000 was lots better, but only felt fully free and ready (for anything) after 10,000.

Have run my last 3 bikes in following the --Break in secrets--(see post 22)to a tee.

They have all used very very little oil and run very very sweet.
