2012 R1200GSA Massively Over-fuelling

I'm in North Wales between Mold and Wrexham. I've put two lots of cheapo oil through it and following up with the good stuff and a new filter this evening. Running and riding fine albeit taken in it short and steady until I'm confident the oil is 100% clean. I've dropped the filter and valve covers off each time so it's as flushed through as it can be.

Once again appreciate everyone's input (and the lack of piss taking🤣!)

At least it's an easy fix. Where are you in the country, someone near you may have a gs911/ Motoscan and plug it in for you to see if there is anything else.
Good shout, I'll be keeping an eye on fuel, oil and plug colour for a while. I'm not familiar with Motoscan, I presume a gs911 alternative?

Yes it is. A lot cheaper but not as user friendly. For fault codes Motoscan is fine, can do a lot more than a 911 in regard to programming but it is a rarely needed function for the average user.

Plus is the Bluetooth obd part works with other apps so you can use it on your car as well.

No I haven't, unless the garage have filled their tanks incorrectly. For what it's worth I always run on boggo unleaded and I'm not colour blind; I also start with the nozzle all the way in, you'll find diesel pump nozzles are bigger than petrol. It's actual quite hard to misfuel a modern petrol vehicle for that reason, you have to try quite hard:)

tractor fuel has a distinct smell, sniff the tank - and try and hold on to the receipt - don't recco, but could look at local spyware and see if others in the area ranting about it happening around the same dates

its quite normal garages fill thanks with the wrong stuff....

the manual says use 98 or above - its also old enough they didn't get a map designed to run ethanol filth in there I believe - so ESSO 99 bought from the right locations, e.g. well away from the filth terminal that creates the damaging rot at fawley, don't get any in there...

Did you read his later reply?
He filled with diesel, has receipt saying diesel. Sorted now.
His mistake. Many have done it.

wow - no - was working my way back - gave up and went to the front, I read the bit he was sure he hadn't, but never reached the newer news

all least its an oil - so the bottom end half full of 10w15 - much better than my vx800 that ended up with 6 litres of super unleaded and 1.5 litres of oil.... that took a while to settle down and stop smoking

the poor old CAT in the GS might need some real support - is it worth removing the system and using some cleaner before its toast and runs mad ?
