Over the years BMW have recommended a few different weights of oil... Was it 10-40, 20-50, 15-50... etc etc... They have not always been consistent and as someone who sold BM's for a while, not always clear with their, if any reasoning... A good quality oil to the correct spec is what i needed... On the charts in manuals, semi and fully synthetic oils are given a wider temperature band than minerals of the same weight...
