Here is a complaint letter I sent to BMW Mottorrad
Let's see what they say

Dear team
I run a 1200 member bike club with connections throughout the biking world and have a serious issue with my *motorcycle which I believe to be unfit for purpose.

My disappointment with the running of the 2013 gs TE supplied by Williams Manchester dealership is spoiling the ownership of this motorcycle
I believe the bike is seriously flawed and should be replaced
Your development of this motorcycle since its original design is testament to *it's poor usability and I believe it to be unfit for purpose.
The bike has a vibration issue over 4000 RPM THAT intrudes the riding pleasure
The setting of the ride hight that causes damage to the drive shaft when used solo set to 2 person setting is laughable
And the sloppy snatchy *Drive when slow running is also a joke
I have issue with the gearbox that is noisy and sounds like its about to explode and think this motorcycle was released before you developed it properly
I justify this by my experience riding your 2014 model with faults corrected
Please explain your poor manufacture of this product and tell me what you can offer to rectify my extreme disappointment of my purchase.
The dealership said you have re developed the engine casing and rectified the poor running and snatchy nature of the bike and it's drive train problems with the 2014 model and believe therefore my 2013 model is unfit for purpose as purchased
I have owned 7 BMW MOTORCYCLES in my lifetime of 42 bikes and never been so disappointed by any other purchase

I think maybe you have a specific fault or two causing you problems. I have a 2013 TE and mine is neither snatchy nor vibration prone.

Was the 1200GS TE Lemon a special edition like the Triple Black

I would have asked your solicitor to write, he may have phrased it better than you have:blast

Good luck in your quest, but you've gone about it the wrong way and should have pursued with the supplying dealer.

You don't have a contract with BMW GB Ltd, do you:augie

:eek::eek: av it!:D

That reads in a nutshell- Dear team, its shit, your shit, your manufacturing is shit, why is it/you so poor and what are you giving me. Ps ive had 42 bikes.

Bit gung ho perhaps should have been a bit more reserved (less of a pub rant) and structured with the first strike but let them know you mean business.

Ive tried 2013 bikes and they were fine so maybe you just got a bad un, or you cant ride.:augie:D

Ooooh......Can I join the 1200 owners club that you run which has links throughout the world?

It sounds really kewl and serious.........gowan gowan, let me join :beerjug:

How many kewl dudes do you have in it?

What are the contact details?

:nenau

have you taken it up with your dealer ? Opened the necessary PUMAs etc ?

Jumping straight at BMW may have unexpected consequences.

.

Starting (or ending even) a letter with a thinly veiled threat – not a great way to get what you want IMO.

At least with the crisis at HQ with the RT, your letter will have given them a good chuckle!:P They need cheering up.:comfort:thumb:D

I would continue loving this bike even if the wheels fell of it. It is the most superior BMW motorcycle ever made. Just get it fixed and love it :)

Oh Dear:blast

Oh and by the way re: the ride height setting, the clue is in the setting, if its designed to be used for 2 people then thats what it is ,using that setting for solo is not what its intended for:rolleyes:, you either need a pillion or a pie or three.

Well, you can have the bike set as high or low as you want, it is called choice and you aren't forced to ride according to the presets. So he can choose to change them and ride higher if he wants.

Please experiment.

I prefer the bike set up with rider plus luggage even though it's just me alone, with or without luggage.

To those berating this man, do you ever try anything else? Do you have any useful feedback for him?

I can say that on both watercooled gs's I've owned they didn't do what is being described by the op in terms of the whining noises. Neither did my previous '08 Gs.

Never said he didn`t have a choice, its his bike and he can do what he likes with it. If he chooses to ride it outside the parameters from BMW then he can`t really complain if he does any damage now can he?

Point being the angle of the drive-shaft will alter considerably depending on the rear pre-set and even more so when traveling over uneven surface, he may only weigh 40kg or he may be a fat bastard but without supplying us with any info other than a whinge at BMW this forum is going to take pot shots at him from all angles, you know full well what its like on here.

Where in the manual does it say that the bike must not be ridden solo with the ESA set to two-up?

He's not riding it outside the parameters, and yes he can complain. Like others, I think he's tackled his complaint the wrong way (I had some grumbles about my 2013 LC, and received some goodwill compensation as a result) but that's not the same as saying that he hasn't got a valid complaint.

BMW will crumble in the face of closely argued logic and erudition like that.
