2013....looking good

historically the ktm has always been a better off road tool than the beemer, but as most buy for the road that's not that big a deal IMO.

i plan on trying both anyway :)

You're right of course, but as one who would most definitely still want both capabilities, I'm afraid BMW have probably lost me now as far as new models in the XXL size goes.

The Katoomer 990 was just a little TOO focussed for it to be a superb two up long distance tourer as well as a one up off-roader.......If the 990 adv had been out on the day I bought my lebbenfiddy adv, i probably would have been in the KTM shop, but that was before I got myself the perfect pillion missus.

Right now though, subject to ergonomics on either bike, if I had 15 grand that I could spunk on a new bike, the Katoomer is in the lead.

I'll be staying with my lebbenfiddy Adv for a while longer though, as after all these years, it's now 100% perfect for me/us

It's not very water-cooled is it?

:rob

They say,

With the new very compact cooling system, it has been possible to significantly improve the cooling ratio and thus the heat management system as compared to the predecessor model (22 % oil cooling / 78 % air cooling) in the new BMW 1200 GS (35 % liquid cooling / 65 % air cooling).:augie

Neat clocks

Looks like my bar risers will fit on the new one then:augie

Haven't had time to look at the full spec etc but can anyone tell me if the current varios will fit ok? Hope they haven't altered the fitments so that a whole new set would be required? If they do fit that's a nice big plus for me, just recode the locks to the new key!...... or keep a key from the old bike:augie

The problem is the exhaust is on the other side so your boxes ain't gonna fit. :blast:blast the internal bags will though:thumb

Perfect timing by BMW. I've just sold a much prized possession and made a few quid which is now looking for a new home. I'll certainly be watching this one with interest! Personally I like the looks, my current 04 GS is an ugly fekker but that's part of it's charm and I do like the way the new one looks. Appeals to me anyway. :D

I think it might end up quite a nice bike once the initial buyers in the first year or so of production road test it properly for BMW and do the post prototype development work !!!

Well after being sick in my mouth the first time I saw the new GS I've since seen more pics and have to say it's growing on me.

Still think it looks pants here

.

Bizarrely side by side with the current one I think it makes the current one look a little out of date all of a sudden.

There's still bits on the new one I don't like though, mainly the 'fangs' and the triangular support beams either side of the screen. Overall I still think I prefer this though.

The silencer ( or "can") is horrendous...the approved Akropovic looks similary hyowj.
White wan with all the toys and a minimal Remus.....

:spank

Have you noticed the new wet clutch is behind the front engine cover and new design alternator is where the clutch usually is,pretty radical and state of the art now.

Clutch thing on Honda CX500....

Looks like a dog's dinner !!

What's with the stupid cut out on the front mudguard ??

If I was in the market for a new bike I think I'd stick with orange :

New KTM 1190 Adventure.

Lighter than the GS at 235 kgs wet and with 150 bhp,23 litre tank etc etc.

The R is even nicer :

Comes with traction control and optional EDS (electronic damping system)

The RC8 motor is a peach, having owned one when they came out,so I'm sure this will be a belter

Sorry but that is both very bland and very ugly imho. Looks like a new version of a TDM rather than a KTM Adventure

i am happy to have no knowledge of anything relating to a CX500.
