Hi All

I’m looking for a little advise it you could help please...

I’m looking at a 2013 GS and a 2014 GS... both around the 9K miles and both mint....
The 2013 is in a shop and he’s telling me its the same in every way as the 2014?... but I thought the early ones did have some problems that were resolved by 2014?

Is that true or is he right?... and if there were issues.. do you know what they are and should they have been sorter by re-call?

Thanks

I believe that the heated grips on the 2013 model were not considered fit for purpose and they also had the lighter flywheel/crank which I found caused slight vibration compared to the later ones with the heavier flywheel/crank.

I'm not sure if the grips had been sorted in 2014, it probably depends when the bike was built, September of each year is usually the point where BMW start building the following years models.

So if one was built in November 2013 and the other built in May 2014 then they are probably the same spec.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to clarify the differences better.

The 2013 version has the screwed in top bungs on the forks.. so no mod needed. 2014 models have the steering damper fitted, A gearbox seal mod....It still has the light flywheel this was replaced in 2015 when the adventure was introduced.

14 on got the steering damper too. That may not bother you, but it illustrates that the salesman is supplying incorrect information.

Yes.. your right... stearing damper I did know about... and they both have the same crank (light)... but the rest is interesting, especialy the folks...
What did they do to overcome the crimp problem on the 2014 on?

Take it to the dealers. the fork mod will be done under the recall for free

Get a bike sept 14 on as the grips were fixed after they came back from the August holiday. The pre 09/14 grips are useless -there is that much of a difference. You’ll also get the heavier flywheel of the GSA, steering damper and the facility to fit GSAP. You may even get the revised screen mounts so that if/when the circlips pop off, you won’t start losing bits of the screen mount!

mmm.. think its a 14 plate and early one... as I can't see any GSAP mount on there... there is a ali bar but no big black mount

Really?

I have a 63 plate bike with a steering damper, GSAP, fully functioning heated grips - so much so that I need to turn them off.

The screen circlips have popped off though..

The LC R1200GS Adventure was launched in 2014.

Damper on a 63 plate... so after the September re-vamp... so that must be like the one I'm looking at... can you remove the GSAP mount if your not using it??

Mine’s an April 2014 model and it has rubbish heated grips and a steering damper.

It did have the lighter flywheel engine, but this was replaced in 2016 due to (relatively minor) corrosion

Mine’s a 64 plate and heated grips are fine. I’ve never had to put them on 2.

Hmmm. My April 14 GS had crap heated grips, Jan 15 GSA about twice as hot. Very long thread on here about it. Either you got lucky or you’re much less sensitive to temperature. I went with sept 2014 as that would include all the above and the better grips.
